Pete Berezney
Peter James Berezney (November 14, 1923 – October 13, 2008) was an American football tackle who played two seasons in the All-America Football Conference with the Los Angeles Dons and Baltimore Colts. He was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the seventh round of the 1946 NFL Draft. He played college football at the University of Notre Dame and attended William L. Dickinson High School in Jersey City, New Jersey. College career Berezney played for he Notre Dame Fighting Irish from 1943 to 1945. He was a starter his senior year in 1945. Professional career Berezney played in twelve games, starting three, for the Los Angeles Dons in 1947. He played in thirteen games for the Baltimore Colts during the 1948 season. Tackle (American Football Position)
Tackle is a playing position in gridiron football. Historically, in the one-platoon system prevalent in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, a tackle played on both offense and defense. In the modern system of specialized units, offensive tackle and defensive tackle are separate positions, and the stand-alone term "tackle" refers to the offensive tackle position only. The offensive tackle (OT, T) is a position on the offensive line, left and right. Like other offensive linemen, their job is to block: to physically keep defenders away from the offensive player who has the football and enable him to advance the football and eventually score a touchdown. Paul Berezney
Paul Lawrence Berezney (born September 25, 1915 – March 29, 1990) was an American football offensive tackle in the National Football League. He played 31 games for the Green Bay Packers between 1942 and 1944, starting in 23. Berezney was the starting right tackle for the Packers in the 1944 NFL Championship Game. After leaving the NFL in 1944, Berezney played in one game for the Miami Seahawks of the All-America Football Conference in 1946. His brother Pete Berezney also played in the AAFC. 1946 NFL Draft
The 1946 National Football League Draft was held on January 14, 1946, at the Commodore Hotel in New York City, New York. The selections were initially withheld from the public out of fear that the newly formed All-America Football Conference would sign away players selected high. With the first overall pick of the draft, the Boston Yanks selected quarterback Frank Dancewicz. The most notable draft choice in this player selection meeting was made by the Washington Redskins and remains one of the biggest draft blunders of all time. They chose Cal Rossi with the 9th overall pick, but Rossi, a junior at UCLA, was not eligible to be drafted. They chose him again in the 1947 NFL draft, but he never played football professionally.
