Petalostigma Triloculare
''Petalostigma triloculare'', known as the long-leaved bitter bark is a rainforest tree of eastern Australia. It occurs in the drier rainforests, often on sandy soil derived from granite or sandstone, and is sometimes seen on old sand dunes. Taxonomy ''Petalostigma triloculare'' was first described by the Swiss botanist Johannes Müller Argoviensis in 1864. ''Petalostigma'' refers to the stigma which can be broadly flattened like a petal. "Triloculare" is derived from Latin and means ''three chambers'', which in this case is obscure, as the fruit usually has four chambers. This species occasionally hybridises with ''Petalostigma pubescens''. Description ''Petalostigma triloculare'' grows as a small tree up to 15 metres (50 ft) tall with a stem diameter of 25 cm (10 in). Johannes Müller Argoviensis
Johann Müller (9 May 1828 - 28 January 1896) was a Swiss botanist who was a specialist in lichens. He published under the name Johannes Müller Argoviensis to distinguish himself from other naturalists with similar names. Biography Müller was born into a farming family on 9 May 1828 in Teufenthal, Switzerland. He received his education at the Reinach gymnasium and then entered the Aargau industrial school, where he was passionate about botany and mathematics. Encouraged by Hans Schinz he built a herbarium of the flora of Aargau. In 1850 and 1851 he studied in Geneva and came into contact with prominent botanists Edmond Boissier and Alphonse Pyrame de Candolle (who offered him the vacant post of curator at his herbarium). In the spring of 1851 he collected in southern France with Jean Étienne Duby. The herbarium specimens from this trip were later sent to several herbaria in Europe. ''Petalostigma'' is a genus of plants under the family Picrodendraceae and the monogeneric subtribe Petalostigmatinae, first defined by von Mueller in 1857. It is native to New Guinea and Australia. They are evergreen, dioecious shrubs or trees. In local medicine, pregnancy is said to be avoided by eating the fruit of the quinine bush (''Petalostigma pubescens''), which does not actually contains quinine. Woolgoolga is a town on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, Australia.
