''Peruvazhiyambalam'' is a Malayalam novel written by Padmarajan P. Padmarajan (23 May 1945 – 23 January 1991) was an Indian film maker, screenwriter and author who was known for his works in Malayalam literature and Malayalam cinema. He was the founder of a new school of film making in Malayalam cinema, .... In 1978, it was adapted for a feature film also called '' Peruvazhiyambalam'' directed by Padmarajan. The novel is about teenager Raman who kills Prabhakaran Pillai, a local thug, in self-defense. It describes his escape from the village by the help of Prabhakaran Pillai's enemies and how he comes to terms with life at the shelter provided by them. The novel explores the teenage mind and its guilt towards crime and its aftermath. Padmarajan
P. Padmarajan (23 May 1945 – 23 January 1991) was an Indian film maker, screenwriter and author who was known for his works in Malayalam literature and Malayalam cinema. He was the founder of a new school of film making in Malayalam cinema, along with Bharathan and K. G. George, in the 1980s. Padmarajan was known for his detailed screenwriting and expressive direction style and made some of the landmark motion pictures in Malayalam cinema. He won the Kerala Sahithya Academy Award in 1972 for his novel ''Nakshathrangale Kaval''. He made his directorial debut in 1979 with '' Peruvazhiyambalam'' which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam. He won his second National Award in 1986 with '' Thinkalaazhcha Nalla Divasam''. Padmarajan had won six Kerala State Film Awards which includes two awards for Best Story in 1978, 1979 and two awards for Best Screenplay in 1984 and 1986. ''Peruvazhiyambalam'' is a 1979 Indian Malayalam-language crime drama film written and directed by P. Padmarajan, based on his novel of the same name. The film was Padmarajan's directorial debut and the acting debut of Ashokan, who played the central character, Raman. The film is an incisive examination of how violence or totalitarianism works in our society; it dealt with disturbing questions relating to masculinity and how people adore and dread it at the same time. It was one of the last black-and-white Malayalam films. ''The Hindu'' described this film as one of the finest films in Malayalam. It won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam.
