Pennsylvania Route 26 (PA 26) is a highway in the south-central area of Pennsylvania. Its northern terminus is at PA 150 northwest of Howard; its southern terminus is at the Maryland state line near Barnes Gap in Union Township. Two major destinations along this route are Raystown Lake near Huntingdon and the Pennsylvania State University at State College. In State College, the road divides into a one-way pair, going northbound on Beaver Avenue and going southbound on College Avenue. The Centre Area Transportation Authority uses these two routes for their Campus Loop and the Town Loop. As of November 24, 2008, a portion of PA 26 is concurrent with the northernmost stretch of Interstate 99 (I-99) north of State College between Pleasant Gap and I-80. Pleasant Gap is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Centre County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of the State College, Pennsylvania Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 2,879 at the 2010 census. Geography Pleasant Gap is located south of the center of Centre County at (40.866926, -77.743539). It is primarily in southern Spring Township, with a small portion extending west into Benner Township. The community is located in the Nittany Valley, along the northwestern base of Nittany Mountain. Gap Run flows off the mountain through the physical Pleasant Gap and continues through the town, entering the Logan Branch, a northward-flowing tributary of Spring Creek, on the northwestern side of town. Benner Township is a township in Centre County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of the State College, Pennsylvania Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located approximately at along Buffalo Run Road ( Pennsylvania Route 550), near Bellefonte. The population was 6,188 at the 2010 census, which is an 18.6% increase since the 2000 censuref name="GR1"> when the population was 5,217. History Benner Township was settled in 1793 with the establishment of an iron furnace. It is named for General Phillip Benner who built the furnace along Spring Creek (Bald Eagle Creek), Spring Creek near the settlement of Rock. Benner built a nail mill and slitting mill in the area as well. Buffalo were seen in the area as late as 1769. Other wild game that inhabited the area prior to settlement were bears, gray wolves and cougars.
