''Perspectives on Terrorism'' (PT) is a bimonthly peer-reviewed, open-access online academic journal, covering political violence, terrorism and counter-terrorism, It is published jointly by the Institute of Security and Global Affairs at the Campus The Hague of Leiden University and the Terrorism Research Initiative based in Vienna, Austria. History ''Perspectives on Terrorism'' was first published by the Terrorism Research Initiative (TRI) in 2007, the same year of that the organisation was founded, by Robert Wesley, Alex P. Schmid and James J.F. Forest in 2007. The Center for Terrorism and Security Studies (CTSS) was established in 2012 at University of Massachusetts Lowell (UMass Lowell), with Forest as director, and CTSS became co-publisher of the journal. Political violence is violence which is perpetrated in order to achieve political goals. It can include violence which is used by a state against other states (war), violence which is used by a state against civilians and non-state actors (forced disappearance, psychological warfare, police brutality, state terrorism, targeted assassinations, torture, ethnic cleansing, or genocide), and violence which is used by violent non-state actors against states and civilians (kidnappings, targeted assassinations, terrorist attacks, torture, psychological and/or guerrilla warfare). Scopus is Elsevier's abstract and citation database launched in 2004. The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) is a website that hosts a community-curated list of open access journals, maintained by Infrastructure Services for Open Access (IS4OA). It was launched in 2003 with 300 open access journals. The project defines open access journals as scientific and scholarly journals making all their content available for free, without delay or user-registration requirement, and meeting high quality standards, notably by exercising peer review or editorial quality control.
