Persatuan Sepakbola Indonesia Surakarta (commonly known as PERSIS Solo, literally translates to Indonesian Football Association of Surakarta), is an Indonesian football club based in the Central Java city of Surakarta. Founded on 8 November 1923 as ''Vorstenlandschen Voetbal Bond'' (VVB), it was officially renamed to its current brand in 1935. PERSIS returned to top-flight football after a decade in 2022 following its success in winning the 2021 Liga 2 (Indonesia), Liga 2 title. The club plays its Liga 1 (Indonesia), Liga 1 home games at Manahan Stadium, which has a capacity of 20,000 spectators. Mangkunegara I, also known as Pangeran Sambernyawa ("''Life Reaping Prince''"), (born Raden Mas Said, 7 April 1725 – 1796) was the first ruler of Mangkunegaran in Java in the eighteenth century. Personal life Mangkunegara was given the nickname "Life Reaping Prince" by Nicolaas Hartingh, because the prince had brought his enemies to death during the war. Hatingh was Dutch East India Company's Governor of the Northeast Coast of Java, located in Batavia. He was born on 7 April 1726 in Kartasura. Perserikatan is a term that commonly refers to national amateur association football, football competitions in Indonesia held between 1931 and 1994 before the formation of Liga Indonesia, organized by the PSSI, the Indonesian football federation.
