Perryville Commercial Historic District
The Perryville Commercial Historic District encompasses the historic commercial and civic heart of the city of Perryville, Arkansas. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012, and it includes two buildings already separately listed. It is centered on the courthouse square, where the 1880 Perry County Courthouse stands. It includes nine contributing buildings, including buildings facing the square, with a few included on adjacent side streets, and six non-contributing ones. This area was developed beginning in the 1840s, when Perryville was founded, and grew through the mid-20th century. Most of the buildings are vernacular commercial buildings, finished in wood, brick, or stone. The most unusual is the Rustic Perryville American Legion Building. Architect Irven G. McDaniels appears to have been the architect who, in 1961, designed a second annex expanding the Perry County Courthouse.The NRHP document refers to a "Erwin McDaniels" which seems likely ... Arkansas Highway 10
Arkansas Highway 10 is an east–west state highway in West Arkansas. The route runs from Oklahoma State Highway 120 near Hackett east to Interstate 30 in Little Rock, the state's capitol. The highway serves both the Fort Smith metropolitan area and the Little Rock – North Little Rock – Conway metropolitan area. Aside from Little Rock in Pulaski County, the highway also passes through county seats in four other Arkansas counties — Greenwood, Sebastian County; Booneville, Logan County; Danville, Yell County; and Perryville, Perry County. Mount Magazine, Arkansas's highest point, lies just to the north of the highway, as does the adjoining Mount Magazine State Park. Perryville, Arkansas
Perryville is a city in and the county seat of Perry County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,460 at the 2010 census, an increase of just two persons from 2000. It is part of the Little Rock– North Little Rock– Conway Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The first Perry County courthouse was built in Perryville in 1841, a year after Perry County was created, and five years after the state of Arkansas was created. The town was platted sometime before 1850. John Rison and his new wife, Harriet, moved to Perryville in 1844 and started the community's first church, a Methodist congregation. Their log home became a community gathering place and is now the oldest building in Perryville. In 1849, Rison bought six lots across from his home to build a log store and a schoolhouse. Perry County Courthouse (Arkansas)
The Perry County Courthouse is located at Main and Pine Streets in the commercial heart of Perryville, Arkansas, the seat of Perry County. It is a two-story brick building, with a hip roof. It is very simply styled, with rectangular two-over-two windows set in unadorned openings (some in pairs). Its main entrance is deeply recessed in an opening framed by pilasters and an entablatured, with multi-light sidelight windows to either side of the door. The courthouse was built in 1888, and was the county's third. It has been enlarged by single-story wings to either side. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. Perryville American Legion Building
The Perryville American Legion Building is a historic fraternal meeting hall at Plum and Main Streets in Perryville, Arkansas. It is a single story masonry building with Rustic and Tudor styling. It has a steeply pitched gable roof, with a projecting gabled entry vestibule facing the street. The gable ends are decorated with half-timbering, and the roof eaves show exposed rafter ends in the Craftsman style. The hall was built in 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, and is the community's best example of the Rustic style.
