Perry Ford
Perry Ford (born Brian Joseph Pugh, 30 December 1933 – 29 April 1999) was an English pop singer, songwriter, producer and session musician, best known as a member of the Ivy League. Life and career Born in Lincoln, he moved to London in the mid-1950s and began singing and playing in Soho clubs.. Under the name Lou Bryan, he briefly joined Colin Hicks & the Cabin Boys as pianist in 1958, and then joined Vince Taylor's band, the Playboys. In 1959, using the name Perry Ford, he recorded the first of three singles on the Parlophone label, produced by George Martin, but none were successful. However, he found some success as a songwriter, co-writing Adam Faith's 1960 UK chart hit "Someone Else's Baby" with Les Vandyke, and co-writing "Caroline" with Tony Hiller for the Fortunes. Although "Caroline" was not a chart hit, it became widely known as the theme song for the pirate radio station Radio Caroline. Pearce Reginald Hartley CalvertNational Probate Calendar, 1966 (1928 – 21 June 1966) was an English artist manager, born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England. He was the manager of The Fortunes, Pinkerton's Assorted Colours, Screaming Lord Sutch, and other pop groups. In 1964, after hearing Radio Caroline, he decided to start his own pirate radio station, and made use of an old World War II fort in the Thames Estuary. Originally, the station was called Radio Sutch, and it started broadcasting on 27 May 1964, on 1542kHz. They had a summer of fun, but when Sutch decided to return to performing, Reg Calvert carried on, renamed it Radio City, and put it onto a more professional footing. Calvert was shot and killed by Oliver Smedley, the former owner of a rival offshore station, Radio Atlanta, who was later acquitted of murder on the grounds of self-defence. "I Can't Explain" is a song by the English rock band the Who, written by Pete Townshend, and produced by Shel Talmy. The song was issued as a single on 15 January 1965 in the United Kingdom, on the Brunswick label, and on the Decca label in America, in December 1964. It was the band's second single release and first under the Who name. The song has been covered by many artists, including David Bowie and Scorpions. "It's Not Unusual" is a song written by Les Reed and Gordon Mills, first recorded by a then-unknown Tom Jones, after having first been offered to Sandie Shaw. He intended it as a demo for her, but when she heard it she was so impressed with his delivery that she recommended he sing it instead. The record was the second Jones single Decca released, reaching No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart in 1965. It was his first hit in the United States, peaking at No. 10 in May of that year. Kenneth Alan James Hawker (3 December 1940 – 2 August 2015) known as Ken Lewis, was an English singer, songwriter and record producer. He is considered one of the more successful songwriters of the 1960s as a result of his collaborations with John Carter. His biggest success was "Can't You Hear My Heartbeat", which was a 1965 US number 2 hit single for Herman's Hermits.
