Perpetual Motion (short Story)
"Perpetual Motion" is a science fiction short story by American writer L. Sprague de Camp, part of his ''Viagens Interplanetarias'' series. It was first published under the title "Wide-Open Planet" in the magazine ''Future Combined with Science Fiction Stories'' in the issue for September–October, 1950. It first appeared in book form under the present title in the collection ''The Continent Makers and Other Tales of the Viagens'', published in hardcover by Twayne Publishers in 1953, and in paperback by Signet Books in 1971. It was also included in the paperback edition of ''The Queen of Zamba'' published by Dale Books in 1977. This edition was reprinted by Ace Books in 1982 as part of the standard edition of the Krishna novels. A trade paperback edition in which the story was paired with Richard Wilson's "And Then The Town Took Off" was issued by Armchair Fiction in May, 2013 as ''Wide-Open Planet & And Then The Town Took Off''. A WikiProject, or Wikiproject, is a Wikimedia movement affinity group for contributors with shared goals. WikiProjects are prevalent within the largest wiki, Wikipedia, and exist to varying degrees within sister projects such as Wiktionary, Wikiquote, Wikidata, and Wikisource. They also exist in different languages, and translation of articles is a form of their collaboration. During the COVID-19 pandemic, CBS News noted the role of Wikipedia's WikiProject Medicine in maintaining the accuracy of articles related to the disease. Another WikiProject that has drawn attention is WikiProject Women Scientists, which was profiled by '' Smithsonian'' for its efforts to improve coverage of women scientists which the profile noted had "helped increase the number of female scientists on Wikipedia from around 1,600 to over 5,000".
