The Permanent Representative of Maldives to the United Nations is the leader of the Maldives' diplomatic mission to the United Nations. It is customary that the Permanent Representative also be dually accredited as Ambassador to the United States of America. Fathulla Jameel (September 5, 1942 – March 1, 2012) was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives from 1978 to 2005. Jameel was the Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations from April 14, 1977 to 1978. He became Minister of Foreign Affairs on March 14, 1978 and, under President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, held that position for 27 years. Ali Naseer Mohamed ( dv, ޢަލީ ނަޞީރު މުޙައްމަދު, born 2 November 1969) is a Maldivian diplomat who was Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations and Ambassador of the Maldives to the United States and Canada from July 2017 to May 2019. A native of Gaddhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, Naseer received a PhD in diplomatic studies from the Australian National University, and a master's degree in diplomatic studies from the University of Leicester. He joined the Maldives Foreign Service in May 1985 and served in a number of posts within the Foreign Ministry, including additional secretary of the Policy Planning Division, director general of the Foreign Relations Directorate, director general of the Department for External Resources, and assistant director of the Research Division. Ahmed Zaki (16 April 1931 – 15 November 1996) was a Maldivian politician. He served as the speaker of People's Majlis from 1959 to 1972. In 1972, he was appointed as Prime Minister of the Republic of Maldives. However, in March 1975, newly elected Prime Minister Zaki was arrested in a bloodless coup and was banished to a remote atoll. Maumoon Abdul Gayoom
Maumoon Abdul Gayoom (; dv, މައުމޫން ޢަބްދުލް ޤައްޔޫމް; born 29 December 1937) is a Maldivian politician and an Islamic scholar who served as the President of Maldives from 1978 to 2008. After serving as Minister of Transport, he was nominated as President by the Majlis (Parliament) of the Maldives and succeeded Ibrahim Nasir in 1978. He was defeated in the October 2008 presidential election. In opposition, he continued to serve as leader of the Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party until January 2010, when he retired from active politics. Abdul Sattar Moosa Didi (alternative name: ''Amir Abdul Sattar Faamudheyri Kilegefaanu'') was Maldivian diplomat and politician. He was born 1936 or 1937. He died in November 2015 in Bangkok.
