''Period'' (stylized in all caps) is the debut commercial mixtape by American hip-hop duo City Girls. It was released on May 11, 2018, through Quality Control Music. Release and promotion "Where the Bag At" served as the mixtape's lead and only single, and was released on February 23, 2018. The mixtape's lead and only single was later released to US rhythmic contemporary radio on October 9, 2018. The mixtape was released alongside a WorldStarHipHop-exclusive music videos for "Take Yo Man", and "Tighten Up". Music videos for "Sweet Tooth", "Period (We Live)", "Millionaire Dick", "Not Ya Main" and "Careless" followed in August, September, and October, 2018, respectively. All the videos were shot before member JT was incarcerated on charges of credit card fraud. Critical reception Upon its release, the album received positive reviews. City Girls is an American hip hop duo consisting of Yung Miami (Caresha Romeka Brownlee; born February 1994) and JT (Jatavia Shakara Johnson; born December 1992). The duo originate from Miami, Florida, and garnered attention after making an uncredited guest appearance on Drake's chart-topping single "In My Feelings" in 2018. The duo signed to Quality Control Music, and later released their debut mixtape, ''Period'' (2018); as well as two studio albums: '' Girl Code'' (2018), which spawned the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) Platinum-certified US top 40 singles " Twerk" (featuring Cardi B) and "Act Up"; and '' City on Lock'' (2020). ''Pitchfork'' (formerly ''Pitchfork Media'') is an American online music publication (currently owned by Condé Nast) that was launched in 1995 by writer Ryan Schreiber as an independent music blog. Schreiber started Pitchfork while working at a record store in suburban Minneapolis, and the website earned a reputation for its extensive coverage of indie rock music. Hurby "Luv Bug" Azor (born September 26, 1964), also known as Fingerprints, is a Haitian musician and hip-hop music producer. He is best known for discovering and producing the hip-hop trio Salt-N-Pepa and the rap duo Kid 'n Play. Early life Born in Port-de-Paix, Azor is Haitian. George Edward Clinton (born July 22, 1941) is an American musician, singer, bandleader, and record producer. His Parliament-Funkadelic collective (which primarily recorded under the distinct band names Parliament and Funkadelic) developed an influential and eclectic form of funk music during the 1970s that drew on science fiction, outlandish fashion, psychedelia, and surreal humor. He launched his solo career with the 1982 album '' Computer Games'' and would go on to influence 1990s hip hop and G-funk. Clinton is regarded, along with James Brown and Sly Stone, as one of the foremost innovators of funk music. William Earl "Bootsy" Collins (born October 26, 1951) is an American bass guitarist and singer. Rising to prominence with James Brown in the early 1970s, and later with Parliament-Funkadelic, Collins established himself as one of the leading names and innovators in funk with his driving basslines and humorous vocals. Rhythmic contemporary, also known as Rhythmic Top 40, Rhythmic CHR or rhythmic crossover, is a primarily American music-radio format that includes a mix of EDM, upbeat rhythmic pop, hip hop and upbeat R&B hits.
