The Romance languages, sometimes referred to as Latin languages or Neo-Latin languages, are the various modern languages that evolved from Vulgar Latin. They are the only extant subgroup of the Italic languages in the Indo-European language family. The five most widely spoken Romance languages by number of native speakers are Spanish (489 million), Portuguese (283 million), French (77 million), Italian (67 million) and Romanian (24 million), which are all national languages of their respective countries of origin. Pericle Fazzini
Pericle Fazzini (4 May 1913 – 4 December 1987) was an Italian painter and sculptor. His large work, ''La Resurrezione,'' is installed in the Aula Paolo VI in the Vatican City in Rome. Life Fazzini was born on 4 May 1913 at Grottammare, in the province of Ascoli Piceno in the Marche, to Vittorio Fazzini and Maria Alessandrini. As a boy he worked with his brothers in the family carpentry workshop, where he learned to carve wood. In 1930, with the help of the poet Mario Rivosecchi, he moved to Rome to study at the Scuola libera del nudo. In 1931, he won a competition in Catania to design a monument to cardinal Dusmet; it was never made. In 1932 he took part in a competition for the Pensionato Artistico Nazionale of the Ministero della Pubblica Istruzione, the Italian ministry of arts and education, and with his low-relief ''Uscita dall'arca'' ("leaving the ark") won a two-year bursary. Pericle Felici (1 August 1911 – 22 March 1982) was an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church. From 1947 until his death he held various offices in the Roman Curia, including Secretary General of the Second Vatican Council, head of the Pontifical Commission for the Revision of the Code of Canon Law, and from 1977 Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura. He became a cardinal in 1967. In 1978, he twice announced to the world from the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica the election of a new pope. At the Council he was identified with the conservatives who sought to maintain Curial control of the proceedings and he was a prominent voice for more conservative and traditionalist views throughout his career. Pericle Martinescu (; February 11, 1911 in Viişoara, Constanța County – December 24, 2005, Timișoara) was a Romanian writer and journalist. Martinescu studied literature and philosophy at the University of Bucharest. His first poems appeared in ''Gazeta Transilvaniei'', a local magazine. As a student he contributed to ''Vremea'', ''România Literară'', ''Revista Fundaţiilor Regale'', ''Viaţa Literară'', ''Meşterul Manole'' and ''Dacia Rediviva''. Pericle Papahagi (1872 – January 20, 1943) was an Aromanian literary historian and folklorist. He was born into an Aromanian family in Avdella (), a village that formed part of the Ottoman Empire's Manastir Vilayet and is now in Greece. After attending school in his native village and in Bucharest in Romania, he graduated from the literature faculty of Bucharest University. He then went to Leipzig University, where he studied under Gustav Weigand and earned a doctorate in philosophy. Papahagi taught high school in Ottoman Thessaloniki and Bitola, in Bulgarian Silistra and in Giurgiu, Romania. His first published work, which appeared in ''Analele Academiei Române'' in 1893, was a collection of children's folklore, ''Jocuri copilărești. Culese de la românii din Macedonia''.
