Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust
The Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust is a theatre and performing arts company that was founded in September 1954, with the aim of establishing drama, opera and ballet companies nationally. Founding In 1954 the Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust was established under the guidance of H.C. Coombs, Governor of the Commonwealth Bank, sir Charles Moses GM of the Australian Broadcasting Commission and John Douglas Pringle of the Sydney Morning Herald" to provide a theatre of Australians by Australians for Australians". Named to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II's visit to Australia, the Trust raised £100,000 by a public appeal. Wendy Blacklock
Wendy Blacklock AM (born 20 January 1932) is an Australian-born retired theatre actress and theatrical entrepreneur, radio and television actress, comedienne, producer, writer, singer, dancer and choreographer who has appeared in numerous performance roles, both locally and in the United Kingdom, and has been referred to as "The Grand Dame of the Stage". Blacklock started her career in theatre in the early 1950s, and although she started to take small screens roles in the latter 50s, and working on screen until the late 1970s, she remained active in stage roles, her preferred genre for seven decades until the mid-2010s. She founded the theatre company production firm Performing Lines for the Elizabethan Theatre Trust and was instrumental in establishing Aboriginal Australian theatre internationally. ''The Canberra Times'' is a daily newspaper in Canberra, Australia, which is published by Australian Community Media. It was founded in 1926, and has changed ownership and format several times.
