Pere Blai
Pere Blai (1553–1621) was a Spanish architect. He probably studied under his father, master of the fountains in Barcelona, and his brother. He was in relationship with Jaume Amigó, influenced Blai's knowledge of Renaissance architecture and led to his appointment as building master of the diocese of Tarragona. His works include the Chapel of the Holiest in the Cathedral of Tarragona (1582), in which he succeeded Bernat Cassany; the parish church in La Selva del Camp (1582); the chapels of St. John and St. Fructuous in the Cathedral of Tarragona (1592); parish church of Cornudella de Montsant (1599); and the parish church of the Apostle James at Riudoms (1617). In 1565 Lluís d'Icard commissioned him the construction of the Palace-Castle of Torredembarra, and example of Catalan Renaissance architecture. Renaissance Architecture
Renaissance architecture is the European architecture of the period between the early 15th and early 16th centuries in different regions, demonstrating a conscious revival and development of certain elements of Ancient Greece, ancient Greek and Ancient Rome, Roman thought and material culture. Stylistically, Renaissance architecture followed Gothic architecture and was succeeded by Baroque architecture. The Cathedral of Tarragona is a Roman Catholic church in Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain. The edifice is located in a site previously occupied by a Roman temple dating to the time of Tiberius, a Visigothic cathedral, and a Moorish mosque. It was declared a national monument in 1905. History There is little information about the origins of the church. A chapter is known to have existed in Tarragona in the late 11th century, but the current edifice was built only from 1154 by order of archbishop Bernat Tort, according to the Augustinian rule, to be entrusted to monks from the monastery of St. Rufus in Avignon. Cornudella De Montsant
Cornudella de Montsant is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of the Priorat in Catalonia, Spain. It is situated in the north-west of the ''comarca'' below the Montsant range and the Prades Mountains. The Siurana reservoir is on the territory of the municipality and supplies its drinking water. Sites near to the village include the Sant Joan del Codolar Hermitage. Riudoms is a town in the ''comarca'' of Baix Camp, province of Tarragona, in Catalonia, located about five kilometres from the regional capital Reus. The main product is the hazelnut, today in recession, and extra virgin olive oil. The Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya is a historic palace in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It houses the offices of the Presidency of the Generalitat de Catalunya. It is one of the few buildings of medieval origin in Europe that still functions as a seat of government and houses the institution that originally built it. The palace is located in the district of Ciutat Vella in Barcelona. It is bounded by the Carrer del Bisbe, Carrer de Sant Sever and Carrer de Sant Honorat.
