Percy Vivian
Reginald Percival (Percy) Vivian (16 October 1902 – 30 January 1986) was a Canadian politician, physician and professor of medicine. He served as a Progressive Conservative party member of the House of Commons of Canada. Background The son of Reginald Percy Vivian and Annie May Brodie, he was born in Barrie, Ontario. He was educated there and at the University of Toronto. In 1926, he married Judith Brewin. Politics Vivian was elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in 1943 for the Ontario Progressive Conservative party. From 1943 to 1946, he was Minister of Health and Public Welfare under Premier George A. Drew and remained a member of provincial Parliament until 1948, although he was chief of McGill University's Department of Health and Social Medicine in early 1947. Barrie is a city in Southern Ontario, Canada, about north of Toronto. The city is within Simcoe County and located along the shores of Kempenfelt Bay, the western arm of Lake Simcoe. Although physically in Simcoe County, Barrie is politically independent. The city is part of the extended urban area in southern Ontario known as the Greater Golden Horseshoe. 1962 Canadian Federal Election
The 1962 Canadian federal election was held on June 18, 1962, to elect members of the House of Commons of Canada of the 25th Parliament of Canada. The governing Progressive Conservative (PC) Party won a plurality of seats in this election, and its majority government was reduced to a minority government. When the election was called, PC Prime Minister John Diefenbaker had governed for four years with the then-largest majority in the House of Commons in Canadian history. This election reduced the PCs to a tenuous minority government as a result of economic difficulties such as high unemployment and a slumping Canadian dollar, as well as unpopular decisions such as the cancellation of the Avro Arrow. William Arthur Goodfellow (August 18, 1901 – May 10, 1983) was a politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a Progressive Conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1943 to 1963 who represented the riding of Northumberland. He served as a cabinet minister in the governments of George Drew, Thomas Kennedy, Leslie Frost, and John Robarts. Background Goodfellow was born on the family farm in Northumberland County, Ontario. Farquhar Oliver
Farquhar Robert Oliver (March 6, 1904 – January 22, 1989) was a politician in Ontario, Canada. Oliver was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as a United Farmers of Ontario Member of the Legislative Assembly in the 1926 provincial election at the age of 22. Oliver was re-elected as a UFO MLA in the 1929 election and was the sole (and last) United Farmers member in the legislature until 1941. In that year, he formally joined the Ontario Liberal Party and the cabinet of Premier Mitchell Hepburn as Minister of Public Works and Welfare after informally supporting the Liberals and attending their caucus meetings since 1934.
