Per Wendel
Per Wendel, (28 January 1947 - 10 October 2005) was a Swedish journalist. He worked for the Expressen newspaper from 1973 until his death. Wendel was the main investigative journalist who told about the Ebbe Carlsson affair, which forced the then justice-minister Anna-Greta Leijon to resign. After Wendels funeral after his death from cancer in 2005, Expressen started the Per Wendel-pris The Per Wendel Award (''Per Wendel-priset'') is a Swedish award given to a journalist by the newspaper '' Expressen''. Expressen
''Expressen'' (''The Express'') is one of two nationwide evening newspapers in Sweden, the other being '' Aftonbladet''. ''Expressen'' was founded in 1944; its symbol is a wasp and its slogans are "it stings" or "''Expressen'' to your rescue". Overview The first edition of ''Expressen'' was published on 16 November 1944. A main feature that day was an interview with the crew members of a British bomber who were successful in sinking the German ship ''Tirpitz''. A project of Albert Bonnier Jr., Carl-Adam Nycop, and Ivar Harrie – who was to become the first editor-in-chief – Expressen was created in part to push back against "national socialism and related violent ideologies." The paper is owned by the Bonnier Group. As of 2005, the paper had a liberal stance, but it declared its independent leaning in 1995. Ebbe Carlsson Affair
The Ebbe Carlsson affair ( sv, Ebbe Carlsson-affären) was a major political scandal in Sweden occurring during mid-1988. The affair came to public knowledge on 1 June 1988, when the evening newspaper '' Expressen'' revealed that Ebbe Carlsson, a journalist and publisher and former secretary at the Swedish government, was carrying out an independent and illegal investigation into the assassination of prime minister Olof Palme, secretly supported by the minister for justice Anna-Greta Leijon. The scandal forced Leijon to resign a week later, and was finally concluded with Carlsson, by then dying with AIDS, being fined for smuggling in 1992. Long before it landed in criminal court, however, an investigation of his role was launched by the constitutional committee of the parliament, its hearings broadcast live on Sveriges Television, the public television service. Anna-Greta Leijon
Anna-Greta Leijon (born Anna Margareta Maria Lejon, 30 June 1939) is a Swedish former social democratic politician. She held various ministerial posts one of which was the minister for justice although she does not have any degree in law. Early life and career Leijon was born on 30 June 1939 in Stockholm, Sweden. She was employed at the Swedish Labour Market Administration (''Arbetsmarknadsstyrelsen'') in 1964 and became agency director there in 1970. Leijon was minister without portfolio from 1973 to 1976 and member of the Riksdag ( s) from 1974 to 1990 (vice chairman of the Committee on the Labour Market from 1979 to 1982). She was a member of the Executive Committee of the Social Democratic Party Board from 1981, minister for employment from 1982 to 1987, minister for gender equality in 1986 and minister for justice from 1987 to 1988 when she was forced to step down due to the Ebbe Carlsson affair. Cancer
Cancer is a group of diseases involving abnormal cell growth with the potential to invade or spread to other parts of the body. These contrast with benign tumors, which do not spread.
