Per Södermark
Johan Per Södermark (5 June 1822, Mossebro, Karlsborg Municipality - 16 November 1889, Stockholm) was a Swedish military officer, painter and lithographer. Biography His father, Olof Johan Södermark, was a military topographer and aspiring artist. He initially followed in his father's footsteps and became an Underlöjtnant in 1843. His active service was relatively short, however, as he resigned in 1848. His education in art began with his father, then continued at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts, where he became an (a type of member candidate), the year of his resignation. Prior to that, he took several study trips to France and Italy. Another factor that prompted his resignation was the death of his father; whose studio he took over. At first, he supported himself by making copies of his father's paintings, but soon began to create his own portraits. Fritz Von Dardel
Fritz Ludvig von Dardel (24 March 1817 – 27 May 1901) was a Swedish diarist, illustrator and early comics artist. He was a courtier, and is known for his diary and illustrations depicting the life of the Swedish court in the mid-19th century. Biography Fritz von Dardel was born in Neuchâtel to the Swiss noble Georges-Alexandre von Dardel, who was inducted into the Swedish nobility in 1810, and the Swedish noble Hedvig Sofia Charlotta Amalia Lewenhaupt, and married the Swedish noble Augusta Silfverschiöld. He became adjutant to the Crown Prince, later King Charles XV of Sweden, in 1850. Projekt Runeberg
Project Runeberg ( sv, Projekt Runeberg) is a digital cultural archive initiative that publishes free electronic versions of books significant to the culture and history of the Nordic countries. Patterned after Project Gutenberg, it was founded by Lars Aronsson and colleagues at Linköping University and began archiving Nordic-language literature in December 1992. As of 2015 it had accomplished digitization to provide graphical facsimiles of old works such as the ''Nordisk familjebok'', and had accomplished, in whole or in part, the text extractions and copyediting of these as well as esteemed Latin works and English translations from Nordic authors, and sheet music and other texts of cultural interest. ''Nordisk familjebok'' (, "Nordic Family Book") is a Swedish encyclopedia that was published in print from between 1876 and 1993, and that is now fully available in digital form via Project Runeberg at Linköping University. Despite their considerable age and relative obsolescence, the public domain editions of the encyclopedia remain important reference works in Finland, especially on Finnish Wikipedia. History First edition ''Nordisk familjebok'' began when Halmstad publisher hired an editor, linguist , in 1874 to publish a six-volume encyclopedia. Linder drew up a plan for the work, designed the editorial team and created a large circle of experts and literary figures, who submitted article proposals and wrote and reviewed them. Nordic Museum
The Nordic Museum ( sv, Nordiska museet) is a museum located on Djurgården, an island in central Stockholm, Sweden, dedicated to the cultural history and ethnography of Sweden from the early modern period (in Swedish history, it is said to begin in 1520) to the contemporary period. The museum was founded in the late 19th century by Artur Hazelius, who also founded the open-air museum Skansen. It was, for a long time, part of the museum, until the institutions were made independent of each other in 1963. Waldemarsudde
Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde (Swedish for ''Cape Waldemar''), is a museum located on Djurgården in central Stockholm. The name is composed of Waldemar, an Old German noble male name, and udde, meaning cape. It is derived from a historical name of the island Djurgården, ''Valmundsö'' (see History of Djurgården.) History It was the former home of the Swedish Prince Eugen, who discovered the place in 1892, when he rented a house there for a few days. Seven years later he bought the premises and had a new house designed by the architect Ferdinand Boberg, who also designed Rosenbad (the Prime Minister's Office and the Government Chancellery), and erected 1903–1904. Prince Eugen had been educated as a painter in Paris and after his death the house was converted to a museum of his own and others paintings. Carl Gustaf Hellqvist (15 December 1851 – 19 November 1890) was one of Sweden's most popular historical painters in the 19th century. Biography He was born in Kungsör, between Arboga and Eskilstuna at Mälaren, Lake Mälaren, Sweden, where he grew up and went to school. Gustaf Wilhelm Palm
Gustaf Wilhelm Palm (14 March 1810, Herrelöv's Farm, near Kristianstad - 20 September 1890, Stockholm) was a Swedish landscape painter and art professor. Biography After completing his basic education, a friend of the family provided the assistance he needed to study with in Lund, who taught him drawing. On his recommendation, Palm was able to make some illustrations for a book on European algae by the botanist, Carl Adolph Agardh. He then attended the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts and supported himself by doing more illustrations; notably for the zoologist, Sven Nilsson. His early paintings were landscapes in the Romantic style that showed the influence of Carl Johan Fahlcrantz. After a trip to Norway in 1833, with Count , who dabbled in lithography, he came under the influence of Johan Christian Dahl and began to depict nature more realistically.
