Peqin District
''Peqin District ( sq, Rrethi i Peqinit) was one of the 36 districts of Albania, which were dissolved in July 2000 and replaced by 12 newly created counties. It had a population of 32,920 in 2001, and an area of . It is in the centre of the country, and its capital was the town of Peqin. The area of the former district is with the present municipality of Peqin, which is part of Elbasan County. There are two historical structures that are a reminder to the antiquity of the District of Peqin (which is the modern name of the district). First is the Via Egnatia, which passes through the middle of the district where its capital Peqin is located. Second is the castle (Castle Klaudiana) of the district also located at the center Peqin. As for the landscape of the capital, it is located in the valley of the river Shkumbin which has a wide base and runs through Elbasan County emptying into the Adriatic Sea near Divjakë (Fier County). Peqin
Peqin (, sq-definite, Peqini) is a town and municipality in Elbasan County, central Albania. The municipality was formed at the 2015 local government reform by the merger of the former municipalities Gjoçaj, Karinë, Pajovë, Peqin, Përparim and Shezë, that became municipal units. The seat of the municipality is the town Peqin. The total population is 26,136 (2011 census), in a total area of 197.90 km2. The population of the former municipality at the 2011 census was 6,353. History The city dates back 2000 years, it is mentioned as Illyrian fortress. The ancient name of Peqin was Clodiana. The city's modern name derives from the Ottoman form ''Bekleyin'', which means a place of hospitality. During Ottoman rule Peqin belonged to the Sanjak of Elbasan. Divjakë (; sq-definite, Divjaka) is a municipality and town in Fier County, Albania. The municipality consists of the administrative units of Grabian, Gradishtë, Remas, Tërbuf with Divjakë constituting its seat. The Shkumbin (; ; la, Genusus, also la, Genessus, label=none or la, Scampis, label=none), also commonly Shkembi, is a river in Southern Europe. It is long and its drainage basin is .
