Pepsi Venezuela Music Awards
The Pepsi Venezuela Music Awards ( es, Premios Pepsi Music Venezuela, links=no; PPM) are honors for the best music in Venezuela in various genres. Its first edition took place on 29 March 2012 in Caracas and was broadcast on Venevisión. Since its second edition in 2013, it has been broadcast by Televen. History The Pepsi Music Awards were created to recognize Venezuela's musical talent in all its genres, connecting musicians among themselves, with their fans, and with the general public. Each year, the process begins in October through nominations on the website. After that, nominations close and voting begins with a jury chosen by the Pepsi Music Academy. This culminates with ceremonies that take place in September of the following year. The awards have more than 60 categories in which bands or artists who have worked actively from 1 January to 15 December can be nominated. Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías (; 28 July 1954 – 5 March 2013) was a Venezuelan politician who was president of Venezuela from 1999 until his death in 2013, except for a brief period in 2002. Joropo
The joropo is a musical style resembling the fandango, and an accompanying dance. It originated in Venezuela and is also present in the eastern Colombian plains. It has African, Native South American, and European influences. There are different joropo variants: tuyero, oriental, and llanero. It is a fundamental genre of Venezuelan ''música criolla'' ( creole music). It is also the most popular "folk rhythm": the well-known song "Alma Llanera" is a joropo, considered the unofficial national anthem of Venezuela. In 1882 it became Venezuela's national dance and music. Formerly, the Spanish word meant "a party", but now it has come to mean a type of music and dance that identifies Venezuelans. Edmundo Benavides (born July 4, 1985 in Caracas, Venezuela) is a Venezuelan singer and songwriter. He began his artistic career in 2006 under the name Edmundo, and later changed his name to Benavides in 2011. In 2012, he was named the fourth most played artist of the year in Venezuela and in 2013 he became the seventh most played artist in the country. Anaís Vivas (born 25 August 1989) is a Venezuelan singer. La Vida Bohème is a rock band from Caracas, Venezuela, formed by Rafael Perez, Daniel De Sousa, Sebastian Ayala, and Henry D'Arthenay in late 2006 and mid-2007. The band takes influence from late '80s punk, disco, funk, electronic music, jazz, salsa, reggae and dance music. Oscar Emilio León Somoza (born July 11, 1943), known as Oscar D'León, and affectionately called ''The Pharaoh of Salsa'', ''The Lion of Salsa'', and the ''World's Sonero'', is a Venezuelan musician best known for his work with salsa music. Simón Narciso Díaz Márquez (August 8, 1928 – February 19, 2014) was a Venezuelan singer and Grammy Award-winning composer of Venezuelan music. Career Díaz endeavored to recover the folklore and musical traditions of the ''llanos'', the Venezuelan plains.
