Pepper Grinder
A burr mill, or burr grinder, is a mill used to grind hard, small food products between two revolving abrasive surfaces separated by a distance usually set by the user. When the two surfaces are set far apart, the resulting ground material is coarser, and when the two surfaces are set closer together, the resulting ground material is finer and smaller. Often, the device includes a revolving screw that pushes the food through. It may be powered electrically or manually. Burr mills do not heat the ground product by friction as much as blade grinders ("choppers"), and produce particles of a uniform size determined by the separation between the grinding surfaces. Food burr mills are usually manufactured for a single purpose: coffee beans, dried peppercorns, coarse salt, spices, or poppy seeds, for example. The Peppermill is a restaurant located on the northern Las Vegas Strip in Winchester, Nevada. It opened on December 26, 1972, and features mostly American cuisine. The Peppermill is popular for its large portions, its interior design, and its Fireside Lounge. The restaurant and lounge are also well known among celebrities and have made various appearances in popular culture. In 2024 the restaurant was named one of America's Classics by the James Beard Foundation. History The restaurant originated with a Reno location, the Peppermill Coffee Shop and Lounge, in 1971. It was opened by Nat Carasali and Bill Paganetti, who later converted the restaurant into the Peppermill Reno resort. The Peppermill restaurant in the Las Vegas Valley opened on December 26, 1972. It was built along the northern Las Vegas Strip. Despite the location, it is a standalone restaurant, not located within any resort.
