People's Spartakiad Of The Soviet Union
The Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR (russian: Спартакиада народов СССР, Spartakiada narodov SSSR) was a mass multi-sport event in the Soviet Union which lasted from 1956–1991. The competition was a descendant of the international Spartakiads, named after the classical escaped slave leader Spartacus. The USSR Spartakiad comprised two separate quadrennial competitions: the Summer Spartakiad and the Winter Spartakiad. The competitions were conducted between the constituent Republics of the Soviet Union. In 1952 the Soviet Union decided to join the Olympic movement, and international Spartakiads ceased. However the term continued to exist for internal sports events in the Soviet Union of different levels, from local up to the Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR. Ukrainian Soviet Encyclopedia
The ''Ukrainian Soviet Encyclopedia'' ( uk, Українська радянська енциклопедія, ''Ukrayinska radyanska entsyklopediya'') was a multi-purpose encyclopedia of Ukraine, issued in the USSR. First attempt Following the publication of the first volume of the in Lviv, then in Poland, in 1930, the ''Ukrainian Soviet Encyclopedia'' (''USE'') was commissioned by Mykola Skrypnyk. During his chairmanship in Kharkiv the editorial board of the ''USE'' was established, enlisting the help of over 100 professionals. Printing began in early 1933, but Moscow censors decried the encyclopedia as being nationalist. Of the 20 planned volumes only three were produced. In the same year Skrypnyk committed suicide, and was succeeded by Volodymyr Zatonsky. The printed copies were destroyed, and plans for the November 1934 edition of USE dissolved. The Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation (RSSSF) is an international organization dedicated to collecting statistics about association football. The foundation aims to build an exhaustive archive of football-related information from around the world. History This enterprise, according to its founders, was created in January 1994 by three regulars of the Rec.Sport.Soccer (RSS) Usenet newsgroup: Lars Aarhus, Kent Hedlundh, and Karel Stokkermans. It was originally known as the "North European Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation", but the geographical reference was dropped as its membership from other regions grew. Gorodki
Gorodki (russian: Городки, ''townlets''; sv, Poppi, lt, Miestučiai), is an ancient Russian folk sport whose popularity has spread to Karelia, Finland, Sweden, Ingria, parts of Lithuania, and Estonia. Similar in concept to bowling and also somewhat to horseshoes, the aim of the game is to knock out groups of skittles arranged in various patterns by throwing a bat at them. The skittles, or pins, are called ''gorodki'' (literally ''little cities'' or ''townlets''), and the square zone in which they are arranged is called the ''gorod'' (''city''). In the Scandinavian and Baltic languages, the game has many different names, such as ''kurnimäng'', ''kriuhka'', ''köllöi'', ''keili'', and ''miestučiai''. The Finnish variant is called ''kyykkä'', or Finnish skittles. The competition took place on July 9 through July 27, 1986 as part of the Spartakiad of Peoples of the USSR. The competition included footballers under 21 years of age (born between 1965 and 1968). All participating teams at first were split in four groups with top two team in each of them advancing to the next round forming two semifinal groups of four in each.
