People's Democratic Party (Macedonia)
The People's Democratic Party ( mk, Народна демократска партија, ''Narodna Demokratska Partija'', NDP) was an Albanian political party in Macedonia based in Tetovo. History The party was established in July 1990, and was formally registered on 1 August. Iljaz Halimi was appointed party president, whilst Ibrahim Bedredin became secretary. It contested the 1990 parliamentary elections, at a time when Macedonia was still part of Yugoslavia. Running alone, it received 0.4% of the vote in the first round and 0.5% in the second, winning a single seat in the Assembly.Dieter Nohlen & Philip Stöver (2010) ''Elections in Europe: A data handbook'', p1282 It also ran in alliance with the Party for Democratic Prosperity in some areas, with the alliance winning five seats. The Albanians in North Macedonia ( sq, Shqiptarët në Maqedoninë e Veriut, mk, Албанци во Северна Македонија) are the second largest ethnic group in North Macedonia, forming 446,245 individuals or 24.3% of the resident population. Of the 2,097,319 total population in the 2021 census (including self-enumerated diaspora), 619,187 or 29.52% are Albanians. Geography The Albanian minority is concentrated mostly in the western, north-western and partially middle area of the country with small communities located in the south-west. Tetovo
Tetovo ( mk, Тетово, , sq, Tetovë/Tetova) is a city in the northwestern part of North Macedonia, built on the foothills of Šar Mountain and divided by the Pena River. The municipality of Tetovo covers an area of at above sea level, with a population of 52,915. The city of Tetovo is the seat of Tetovo Municipality. Tetovo was founded in the 14th century on the place of the ancient town of Oaeneon. In the 15th c. AD, Tetovo came under Ottoman rule for about five centuries. The Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia ( mk, Собрание на Република Северна Македонија, sq, Kuvendi i Republikës së Maqedonisë së Veriut), or the Sobranie ( mk, Собрание, "Assembly"), is the unicameral representative body of the citizens of North Macedonia; it is North Macedonia's sole legislature. Party For Democratic Prosperity
The Party for Democratic Prosperity or PDP ( al, Partia për prosperitet demokratik, PPD; mk, Партија за демократски просперитет, ПДП) is an ethnic Albanian political party in North Macedonia. The party was formed in April 1990 and is currently led by Abdyladi Vejseli. From 1992 to 1998 the PDP was part of the coalition governments led by the SDSM. After the split of the radical wing from the party in February 1994, PDP was generally considered to be moderate party that could cooperate with Macedonian parties, although sometimes frictions between the PDP and the other government parties arose as a consequence of the ethnic questions. For example, the party leadership criticized the 1991 Census for allegedly underreporting the percentage of the population that was Albanian from 40% to only 21%.
