Pente Pigadia
Pente Pigadia ( el, Πέντε Πηγάδια, or "Five Wells"; before 1971: Μπρίγκα - ''Brigka'') is a settlement in the municipal unit of Filippiada in the northern part of the Preveza regional unit in Greece. It is part of the community of Kleisoura. Pente Pigadia is situated in the western foothills of the Xirovouni mountains, about 25 km north of Arta. Pente Pigadia was under Ottoman rule until the First Balkan War (1912–1913). Filippiada
Filippiada ( el, Φιλιππιάδα) is a small town and a former municipality in the Preveza regional unit, Epirus, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Ziros, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 142.409 km2. It has a population of 8,106 (2011 census). Geography The town of Filippiada is situated at the foot of low hills on the right bank of the river Louros. The northern part of the municipal unit is mountainous. Filippiada is northwest of Arta, northeast of Preveza and south of Ioannina. The Greek National Road 5 (Antirrio - Agrinio - Arta - Ioannina) passes through the town, and the Greek National Road 21 connects it with Preveza. Preveza ( el, Περιφερειακή ενότητα Πρέβεζας) is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the Epirus region. Its capital is the town of Preveza. Geography The regional unit of Preveza is located northwest of the Ambracian Gulf. The Ionian Sea lies to the west. The terrain is mostly hilly. The mountains of Xerovouni are in the far northeast. Rivers include the Louros in the east, and Acheron in the north. Its climate is typically Mediterranean with hot dry summers and cool winters. Snow is not uncommon in winter at higher elevations. The Battle of Pente Pigadia or Battle of Beshpinar ( el, Μάχη των Πέντε Πηγαδιών; "Battle of the Five Wells", tr, Beşpınar Muharebesi), took place on 24–30 October ( O.S.), 1912. It was a battle fought between Greek forces under Lieutenant General Konstantinos Sapountzakis and Ottoman forces under General Esad Pasha during the First Balkan War. The battle began when the Ottomans attacked Greek positions at Anogi.
