Pension Schöller (1930 Film)
''Pension Schöller'' is a 1930 German comedy film directed by Georg Jacoby and starring Paul Henckels, Elga Brink and Jakob Tiedtke. It is an adaptation of the 1890 play '' Pension Schöller'' by Wilhelm Jacoby and Carl Laufs. Georg Jacoby was Wilhem's son, and made three film adaptations of his father's best known play in 1930, 1952 and 1960. The film's sets were designed by the art director Max Heilbronner. Plot The landowner and bachelor Philipp Klapproth, who finances his nephew Peter Klapproth's medical studies, receives a letter from him in which he asks his uncle for 20,000 marks which he wants to invest into construction of an insane asylum. The truth is, the nephew has completely different plans: He can neither see blood, nor has he ever studied medicine at all; instead, he and his music-loving friend Tommy dedicate themselves to their band with heart and soul. Trude Berliner (28 February 1903 – 26 February 1977) was a German actress. She was one of many Jewish actors and actresses who were forced to flee Europe when the Nazis came to power in 1933. Biography Berliner was born Gertrude Berliner in Berlin, Germany. She became a famous cabaret performer in Berlin. In 1925, she appeared in her first movie, a silent film called '' Krieg im Frieden''. Berliner would wait four years before her second movie, but her film career would then take off. In 1929, she appeared in '' Dich hab ich geliebt'', which would become the first German talkie released in the United States. Fritz Schulz (actor)
Fritz Schulz (25 April 1896 – 9 May 1972) was a German and Austrian movie and stage actor, singer and director. Born in Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad), Austria-Hungary, he appeared in almost one hundred movies between 1917 and 1970. Of Jewish extraction, Schultz fled the German film industry in Berlin at the onset of Nazism in 1933 and moved to Vienna to act in and direct independent Austrian film productions. He departed Austria as an exile upon the German Anschluss in 1938 and settled in Switzerland where he concentrated on his stage career until his death in Zürich in 1972. He was married at the age of 14 to 19 year old actress Ágnes Esterházy from 1910 until her death in 1956. Hedwig Wangel (1875–1961) was a German stage and film actress. Life and career Born as Amalie Pauline Hedwig Simon on September 23, 1875, in Berlin in the German Empire, Hedwig Wangel was the daughter of a music publisher. After studying acting with Max Grube, she made her theatrical debut in 1893 in ''Urania''. Following performances for the remainder of the decade in theaters across Germany, during which she was a member of Max Reinhardt's Deutsches Theater, she then toured England during 1901 and 1902 and the Netherlands during 1902 and 1903, when she retired suddenly, began to provide care for homeless men and women, and assisted the Salvation Army and the Berliner Prisoner Association. Fritz Kampers (14 July 1891 – 1 September 1950) was a German film actor. He appeared in more than 250 films between 1913 and 1950. Early life Fritz Kampers was the son of a Munich hotel owner, spent his early childhood in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and attended a boarding school in Weilheim in Upper Bavaria. After completing secondary school, he completed a commercial apprenticeship in a textile shop in Munich and at the same time took acting classes with Richard Stury, who presided as president of the Munich experimental stage. Viktor de Kowa (also spelled Victor de Kowa, born Victor Paul Karl Kowalczyk; 8 March 1904 – 8 April 1973) was a German stage and film actor, chanson singer, director, narrator, and comic poet.
