Pennsylvania Route 92
Pennsylvania Route 92 (PA 92) is a north–south state highway located in northeast Pennsylvania. The southern terminus of the route is at U.S. Route 11 (US 11) in West Pittston. The northern terminus is at the New York-Pennsylvania border in Oakland Township, where PA 92 continues northward as New York State Route 79 (NY 79). Route description PA 92 begins at an intersection with US 11 in the borough of West Pittston in Luzerne County, heading northwest on two-lane undivided Exeter Avenue. The road heads through residential areas, crossing a Luzerne and Susquehanna Railway line before continuing past more homes with some businesses. The route heads into the borough of Exeter and turns north onto Exeter Avenue, heading through more developed areas a short distance to the west of the North Branch Susquehanna River. West Pittston, Pennsylvania
West Pittston is a borough in the Greater Pittston area of Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is located on the Susquehanna River (opposite of Pittston City). In 2020, the population was 4,644. The town once produced mine screens, glass, crackers, and many other goods. West Pittston rose to national attention in September 2011, when catastrophic flooding (caused by the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee) left much of the borough under water. History West Pittston was settled in the 1770s. On July 1, 1778, during the Revolutionary War, Fort Jenkins (a patriot stockade in present-day West Pittston) surrendered to the British (under Major John Butler). It was later burned to the ground. On July 3, the Battle of Wyoming was fought only several miles outside of West Pittston. It was incorporated as a borough in 1857. Luzerne And Susquehanna Railway
The Luzerne and Susquehanna Railway is a shortline railroad in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. It both serves local traffic and connects to the Reading Blue Mountain and Northern Railroad in Pittston and to the Norfolk Southern Railway at three separate junctions. It operates a total of 55 miles of track in and around the Wyoming Valley in Luzerne County. When formed in 1994 the railway incorporated tracks from a variety of defunct railroads, including the Pocono Northeast Railroad, Lehigh Valley Railroad, and Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad. Major commodities hauled by the Luzerne and Susquehanna include chemicals, packaging, building products, and food & beverage. The total number of cars transported in 2010 numbered nearly 4000. The route is a two-lane undivided road that passes through rural areas in the southern part of Wyoming County, serving the communities of Vernon and Center Moreland.
