Pennsylvania Route 166 (PA 166) is a north–south state highway in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. It follows the path of the Monongahela River along the entire western border of Fayette County. Route description PA 166 begins at an intersection with US 119 in Springhill Township just north of the confluence of the Monongahela and Cheat Rivers at the borough of Point Marion. From this point, PA 166 heads northwest on two-lane undivided New Geneva Road, following the Monongahela River downstream. The route passes through forested areas with a few homes and farms, turning north and reaching the Friendship Hill National Historic Site. The road turns northeast and runs through the community of Friendship Heights, crossing the George Creek into Nicholson Township. National Pike
The National Road (also known as the Cumberland Road) was the first major improved highway in the United States built by the federal government. Built between 1811 and 1837, the road connected the Potomac and Ohio Rivers and was a main transport path to the West for thousands of settlers. When improved in the 1830s, it became the second U.S. road surfaced with the macadam process pioneered by Scotsman John Loudon McAdam. A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Pennsylvania Route 21
Pennsylvania Route 21 (PA 21) is a long east–west state highway in the US state of Pennsylvania. The western terminus of the route is at the West Virginia state line in Richhill Township, where PA 21 continues into West Virginia as West Virginia Route 891. The eastern terminus is at U.S. Route 40 Business in Uniontown. The route is known as the Roy E. Furman Highway for most of its length. PA 21 serves Waynesburg and Masontown along the way.
