Penpals
Pen pals (or penpals, pen-pals, penfriends or pen friends) are people who regularly write to each other, particularly via postal mail. Pen pals are usually strangers whose relationship is based primarily, or even solely, on their exchange of letters. Occasionally, pen pals may already have a relationship that is not regularly conducted in person. Purposes A pen pal relationship is often used to practice reading and writing in a foreign language, to improve literacy, to learn more about other countries and lifestyles, and to make friendships. While the expansion of the Internet has reduced the number of traditional pen pals, pen pal clubs can nowadays be found on the Internet, in magazine columns, newspapers, and sometimes through clubs or special interest groups. Organizations Many pen pals meet each other through organizations that bring people together for this purpose. Organizations can be split into three main categories: free, partial subscription, and subscription-based ... Twice Removed
''Twice Removed'' is the second album by Canadian rock band Sloan, released on Geffen Records in 1994. The album took seven weeks and cost $120,000 to record. More melodic than their previous album, ''Smeared'', Geffen gave the record little promotion because it defied the label's commercially dominant grunge rock style of the time. The band and Geffen parted ways after ''Twice Removeds release. After the band's trouble with the label, they took time off from touring and writing and were broken up for a brief period. Commercial performance ''Twice Removed'' peaked at No. 25 on the '' RPM'' Canadian Albums Chart. By February 1997, the album had sold 58,000 units in Canada. The album was certified Gold in Canada on October 20, 1998. Legacy In 1996, the music magazine ''Chart'' conducted a reader poll to determine the best Canadian albums of all time. ''Twice Removed'' topped that poll. When the magazine conducted a follow up poll in 2000, ''Twice Removed'' lost the top spot to ... Jazz Suite Inspired By Dylan Thomas's "Under Milk Wood"
''Jazz Suite Inspired by Dylan Thomas's "Under Milk Wood"'' is an album by the English pianist Stan Tracey and his quartet, that was released by the Columbia subsidiary of EMI in 1965. The music was written in response to the 1953 BBC radio play ''Under Milk Wood'', by the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas. It has often been cited as one of the best jazz recordings made in the United Kingdom. Reception In a review of the album for '' BBC Music Magazine'', Chris Parker wrote: "Tracey’s startlingly percussive, eccentric piano style and his close rapport with tenorman Bobby Wellins do bring Thelonious Monk and Charlie Rouse to mind, but the cogent pungency of the compositions (in catchy mid-tempo tunes or in haunting ballads like ‘Starless and Bible Black’ and the title-track) is all his own". In a series of articles for ''The Guardian'' newspaper titled "50 great moments in jazz", John Fordham wrote of the album: "''Under Milk Wood'' was an evocative collection of sparky themes insp ... The Next Generation)
''The'' () is a grammatical article in English, denoting persons or things already mentioned, under discussion, implied or otherwise presumed familiar to listeners, readers, or speakers. It is the definite article in English. ''The'' is the most frequently used word in the English language; studies and analyses of texts have found it to account for seven percent of all printed English-language words. The word can be used with both singular and plural nouns, and with a noun that starts with any letter. This is different from many other languages, which have different forms of the definite article for different genders or numbers. Pronunciation In most dialects, "the" is pronounced as (with the voiced dental fricative followed by a schwa) when followed by a consonant sound, and as (homophone of pronoun ''thee'') when followed by a ...
