Fort Pelly
Fort Pelly was a Hudson's Bay Company fur trading post located in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. The fort was named after Sir John Pelly, governor of the Hudson's Bay Company. The current village of Pelly, Saskatchewan, takes its name from the fort, and is located approximately 8 miles north of the site of the fort. The first fort Before Fort Pelly was built there was a Fort Hibernia in the general area. The first Fort Pelly, at , was constructed by the Hudson's Bay Company in 1824, in the northeast corner of the elbow of the Assiniboine River. It was situated at a convenient portage point between the Assiniboine and Swan Rivers. Since the upper Assiniboine is shallow and crooked the area was most easily reached from the Swan River. The route was Lake Winnipegosis - Swan River - Snake Creek - Miry Creek - portage to the Assiboine River. It was the administrative centre of the Hudson's Bay Company's Swan River District. Pelly (Saskatchewan Electoral District)
Pelly is a former provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Located in east-central Saskatchewan, it was centered on the village of Pelly. The riding was created before the 2nd Saskatchewan general election in 1908, and dissolved before the 23rd Saskatchewan general election in 1995. This constituency elected the first woman to the Saskatchewan legislature: Sarah Ramsland. It is now part of the district of Canora-Pelly. Pelly Peak
Pelly Peak, is a mountain summit in the Russel Range of the Omineca Mountains in northern British Columbia, Canada. The mountain is situated west of the head of Finlay Reach of Williston Lake, and a remote south of Fort Ware in the Cassiar Land District. It rises above the south shore of Pelly Lake. Its nearest higher peak is Barrier Peak, to the east. Precipitation Surface runoff, runoff from the mountain drains into Pelly Creek, a tributary of the Ingenika River. Sir John Pelly (1777–1852) served as Governor of Hudson's Bay Company for three decades, and his name is attached to many geographic features in Canada, including but not limited to Pelly River, Pelly Mountains, Pelly Island, Pelly Bay, Mount Pelly, and Fort Pelly. Pelly River
The Pelly River (Ts'ekínyäk Chú) is a river in Canada, and is a headstream of the Yukon River. The river originates west of the Mackenzie Mountains and flows long through the south central Yukon. The Pelly has two main tributaries, the Ross and Macmillan rivers. The Selkirk First Nation (Hucha Hudan people) name for the river is Ts'enkínyäk Chú, meaning 'water running between the mountains'. The river was later named by Robert Campbell in honour of Sir John Henry Pelly, governor of the Hudson's Bay Company. The restored Hudson's Bay Company trading post of Fort Selkirk is at the juncture of the Pelly and Yukon Rivers. Baytown is a city in the U.S. state of Texas, within Harris and Chambers counties. Located in the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan statistical area, it lies on the northern side of the Galveston Bay complex near the outlets of the San Jacinto River and Buffalo Bayou. Pelly Baronets
The Pelly Baronetcy, of Upton in the County of Essex, is a title in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 12 August 1840 for John Pelly, Governor of the Bank of England and of the Hudson's Bay Company. The title descended in the direct line until the early death of his grandson, the third Baronet, in 1877. The late Baronet was succeeded by his half-brother, the fourth Baronet. His grandson, the sixth Baronet, was a deputy lieutenant of Hampshire and served as high sheriff of the county from 1970 to 1971. As of 2007 the title is held by his nephew, the seventh Baronet, who succeeded in 1993. He is the son of Richard Heywood Pelly, second son of the fifth Baronet. Several other members of the Pelly family have also gained distinction.
