Albert Pel
Félix-Albert Pel (12 June 1849 – 9 June 1924) was a French serial killer. He was nicknamed The Watchmaker of Montreuil, Seine-Saint-Denis, Montreuil. At Landru's trial, the latter was compared to Pel because of the many similarities between the two cases. Youth Born in Grand-Coeur, in the municipality of Aigueblanche, Albert Pel was the son of a watchmaker and a merchant; his parents separated shortly after his birth, apparently because of adulterous acts committed by his mother. In this regard, Pel said during his trial he suffered from "insecurities if he really was the child of the Savoie watchmaker". Each spouse lived on his side: Mr. Pel remained in Bourg-Saint-Maurice, and Ms. Pel moved to Paris. David Pel (born 9 July 1991) is a Dutch tennis player. He has a career high ATP singles ranking of World No. 885 achieved on 1 May 2017. Hendrik Pel
Hendrik Severinus Pel (30 August 1818 – 11 January 1876) was a Dutch zoologist and colonial administrator on the Dutch Gold Coast. Biography Hendrik Pel was born in Leiden to warehouse keeper Isaac Pel and Adriana Lammerina Hunink. On 1 January 1832, at age 13, Hendrik Pel was appointed élève at the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie and educated as a taxidermist. Pel had an adventurous nature and inquired with his superiors about the possibility to be sent abroad as a collector of specimens. The museum's director Coenraad Jacob Temminck saw in Pel an excellent candidate for the position of collector on the Dutch Gold Coast; Temminck had already sent the medical officer A.J. Baierlein to the Gold Coast in 1822 to collect specimens, but he died soon after his arrival, and later attempts to have the officers of medicine on the Gold Coast send specimens to the Netherlands failed due to their unfamiliarity with taxidermy. Pieter Klazes Pel
Professor Pieter Klazes Pel (February 22, 1852 in Smallingerland – February 15, 1919) was a Dutch physician and professor of internal medicine. Medical education Pel attended the gymnasium at Sneek, then moved to study medicine in Leiden from 1869 to 1873. He became the assistant to one of his mentors, a Dr. Rosenstein, who was a professor of internal medicine at Leiden. Pel graduated cum laude in 1876. His doctoral thesis was entitled "The Fever Inducing Effect of Digitaline." Career In 1878 Pel was appointed "chef de clinique” at the University Hospital in Amsterdam, and devoted himself to internal medicine—both as a physician and as a researcher. In Pel's time, this meant all aspects of medicine besides surgery and gynecology; internal medicine was an extremely vast field. PEL Sector Light
The PEL sector light is a projector style marine beacon which is used to guide maritime vessels. It does this by projecting a colored sector out to sea with very sharp color changes as the mariner transitions from one sector to the next. Typical PEL sector lights will have a complete color change over 1 meter (sideways movement) when the mariner is 5 km from the beacon. The PEL's application becomes relevant to the mariner when combined with a local marine chart as each application of a PEL varies greatly. They are used for guiding vessels into harbor, traffic separation or to illuminate hazards. The main advantage to a PEL sector light is that it has very sharp transitions between colors (typical 0.05°) and is bright enough to be used in daylight with up to 10 Nautical Miles or 18.5 km visibility. The permissible exposure limit (PEL or OSHA PEL) is a legal limit in the United States for exposure of an employee to a chemical substance or physical agent such as high level noise. Permissible exposure limits are established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Most of OSHA's PELs were issued shortly after adoption of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act in 1970. For chemicals, the chemical regulation is usually expressed in parts per million (ppm), or sometimes in milligrams per cubic meter (mg/m3). Primary Effusion Lymphoma
Primary effusion lymphoma (PEL) is classified as a diffuse large B cell lymphoma. It is a rare malignancy of plasmablastic cells that occurs in individuals that are infected with the Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (i.e. KSHV/HHV8). Plasmablasts are immature plasma cells, i.e. lymphocytes of the B-cell type that have differentiated into plasmablasts but because of their malignant nature do not differentiate into mature plasma cells but rather proliferate excessively and thereby cause life-threatening disease.
