Pekisko
Pekisko is an unincorporated community in southern Alberta, Canada. It is located in the Foothills County, east of the junction of Cowboy Trail and Highway 540, south of High River and south of Longview. It lies in the Canadian Rockies foothills, north of the Highwood River, at an elevation of , and is the centre of the Pekisko Rangeland, an area of livestock grazing and agriculture. Oil and gas is an increasing part of the economy. The name Pekisko originates from the Blackfoot language , meaning ''rolling foothills''. The Pekisko Formation (Mississippian limestone) of the Rundle Group was named after this community. Pekisko Formation
The Rundle Group is a stratigraphical unit of Mississippian age in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. It takes the name from Mount Rundle (itself taking the name from Robert Terrill Rundle), and was first described in outcrops at the northern side of the mountain in Banff National Park by R.J.W. Highwood River
The Highwood River is a tributary of the Bow River in southwestern Alberta, Canada. Course The Highwood originates in the Canadian Rockies in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, in the Highwood Pass below Mount Arethusa. It flows south and is paralleled by the Kananaskis Trail between Elbow-Sheep Wildland Provincial Park, Don Getty Wildland Provincial Park, and ''Emerson Creek Park''. It turns east and flows along Highway 541 and through the community of Longview. Continuing east, it passes through High River, ending when it enters the Bow River southeast of Calgary. Nanton, Alberta
Nanton is a town in southern Alberta, Canada. Nanton was named after Sir Augustus Meredith Nanton of Winnipeg (1860–1925) who directed firms which offered financing for farms and ranches throughout the west. It is located south of Calgary at the junction of Highway 2 and Highway 533. Nanton was historically known as "Tap Town", after providing passing motorists with free water supplied from the foothills via a stand tap on the northbound highway. This water was one of the first to be bottled and sold in Canada, resulting in the creation of Nanton Water & Soda Ltd, still a thriving business in the town today. Foothills County is a municipal district in southern Alberta, Canada adjacent to the south side of Calgary in Census Division No. 6. High River
High River is a town within the Calgary Metropolitan Region of Alberta, Canada. It is approximately south of Calgary, at the junction of Alberta Highways 2 and 23. High River had a population of 14,324 in 2021. History The community takes its name from the Highwood River, which flows through the town. Chain Lakes Provincial Park
Chain Lakes Provincial Park is a provincial park located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains west of Nanton, Alberta, Canada. It was established along the Chain Lakes Reservoir. The Cowboy Trail runs along the eastern boundary of the park. The park is located 1 1/2 hours southeast of Calgary and about the same distance from Lethbridge to the southeast. Facilities and activities Chain Lakes Provincial Park is open year-round and offers camping and day use facilities. Camping facilities include individual sites with power and a group camp large enough for about 15–20 recreational vehicles and tents. Day use facilities include picnic tables and heated kitchen shelters. Year-round fishing is a popular activity. The reservoir is regularly stocked with lake trout. Stavely is a town in southern Alberta, Canada. It is located south of Calgary on Highway 2 and east of Willow Creek Provincial Park. History Stavely was named for Alexander Staveley Hill, Managing Director of the Oxley Ranching Company that was founded in 1882 by John R Craig on 100,000 acres of grazing rights.
