Pehr Ferdinand Holm
Pehr Ferdinand Holm (3 April 1844–30 March 1917) was a New Zealand mariner and shipowner. He was born in Arboga, Sweden on 3 April 1844. Holm and his wife are commemorated by a large window in the Wellington Cathedral of St Paul. After his death his business was continued by his sons under the name Holm & Co Holm & Co were ship owners, ship brokers and stevedores based in Wellington, New Zealand. Arboga
Arboga () is a locality and the seat of Arboga Municipality in Västmanland County, Sweden with 10,330 inhabitants in 2010. Overview The city of Arboga is known to have existed as a town since the 13th century but the area has been inhabited since around 900 AD. The name (originally Arbugæ) consists of the two words "Ar" which in ancient Swedish means river and bughi which means "bend" and which together have the meaning "river bend". The city was at one time a residence of the royal family of Vasa. It was the scene of church assemblies and national diets, and it is known for the antiquities in its neighborhood. Wellington Cathedral Of St Paul
The Wellington Cathedral of St Paul (also called St Paul's Cathedral or Wellington Cathedral) is an Anglican church in the city of Wellington, New Zealand. It is the mother church of the Diocese of Wellington and the cathedral of the Bishop of Wellington. Situated in Thorndon, the main entrance to the cathedral is on Hill Street, at its junction with Molesworth Street; it is located close to the parliament precinct. The building was designed in the 1930s by New Zealand architect Cecil Wood. Construction began in 1954, and was completed in 1998. It was constructed in reinforced concrete due to the effects of the 1931 Napier earthquake making other choices impractical. Holm & Co were ship owners, ship brokers and stevedores based in Wellington, New Zealand. They were agents for Australian and other foreign airways and shipping lines. The business was founded by Swedish-born Captain Pehr Ferdinand Holm (1844—1917) when he bought the barque Genevie M Tucker in 1889. He had settled in Wellington in 1868. His last sailing ship was the barquentine Titania wrecked off Nouméa in 1914 when the lighthouse was under a wartime blackout. Two sons became marine engineers and two became master mariners.
