Pegasus Athletic F.C.
Pegasus Athletic Football Club was a football club based in south Essex, England. History Founded in the 1960s, the club, initially named Pegasus (Coryton), won the Essex Intermediate Cup in the 1969–70 season, beating Hornchurch Reserves 2–0 in the final. In 1971, the club, now renamed to Pegasus Athletic, joined the Essex Senior League, becoming founder members of the league. In the 1971–72 season, they finished third place out of nine clubs, once again winning the Essex Intermediate Cup at the end of the season, beating Colchester-based club Eastern Gas in the final. However, in the following season, they resigned from the league after playing only one match, losing 11–1 against Tiptree United on 2 September 1972. Their record was expunged. Pegasus' last game came against Barkingside in a 15–2 loss in the FA Amateur Cup on 9 September 1972. Southend Stadium
Southend Stadium was a former greyhound racing and football stadium in Grainger Road, Southend-on-Sea, Essex. It was also the home ground of Southend United between 1934 and 1955 and was also known as Greyhound Park. Origins The first greyhound racing in Southend took place at the Kursaal from 1927 until 1929. Three years later in 1932 planning permission for a new stadium was submitted to the Southend Council by a new company called Southend Stadium Ltd headed by the Wimbledon supremo William John Cearns. The new stadium was built on the site of the Milton Hall Brickworks in the All Saints Ward and featured two main stands, the east stand which would later have a restaurant and the west stand with covered seating, the remainder of the stadium being uncovered terracing. The FA Amateur Cup was an English football competition for amateur clubs. It commenced in 1893 and ended in 1974 when the Football Association abolished official amateur status. History Following the legalisation of professionalism within football, professional teams quickly came to dominate the sport's main national knock-out tournament, the FA Cup. In response to this, the committee of the country's oldest club, Sheffield F.C., suggested in 1892 the organisation of a separate national cup solely for amateur teams, and even offered to pay for the trophy itself. The Football Association (the FA) declined the club's offer, but a year later decided to organise just such a competition. N. L. Barkingside is an area in Ilford, in the London Borough of Redbridge. It includes the major road junction of ''Fullwell Cross'' which also gives its name to the locality near that roundabout. The area is situated 10.6 miles (17km) north east of Charing Cross. Barkingside is chiefly known for the children's charity Barnardo's, which was founded there in 1866, and still has its headquarters there. Some of the oldest buildings in Barkingside include the Barnardo's chapel, the underground station, which was originally an Edwardian railway station, and Holy Trinity Church, which dates from 1840. Tiptree is a village and civil parish in the English county of Essex, situated south-west of Colchester and around north-east of London. The Essex Senior Football League is an English men's football league. It contains clubs from the Essex FA, Hertfordshire FA, London FA, Middlesex FA and the Amateur Football Alliance. It is a feeder league to Division One North of the Isthmian League and has a single division which sits at Step 5 (or Level 9) of the National League System.
