Pedro Franco Badía
Pedro Franco Badía (Noná, San Francisco de Macorís, 25 May 1935 – Santo Domingo, 4 December 2016) was a Dominican politician who served as Mayor of Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional (1978–1982), Secretary of Labor (1982–1986), Deputy to the Congress (1990–1994, 1998–2002), Administrative Secretary of the Presidency (2002–2003) and Secretary of Interior and Police of the Dominican Republic (2003–2004). He was also a key member of the Proyecto Presidencial Hipólito political movement, a political faction that took over the Dominican Revolutionary Party (a major Dominican political party). He was prosecuted by the Dominican District Attorney's office for his involvement in the illegal distribution of public transportation vehicles in the Dominican Republic through a dubious government program known as ''Plan RENOVE''. Dominican Revolutionary Party
The Dominican Revolutionary Party ( es, link=no, Partido Revolucionario Dominicano, PRD) is a political party in the Dominican Republic. Traditionally a left-of-centre party and social democratic in nature, the party has shifted since the 2000s toward the political centre. The party's distinctive color is white. Traditionally, the party has two presidents: the "Titular President" and the "Acting President" (and actually, a sort of Vice-President); until 2010 the presidents and the Secretary-General were proscribed to run for any elected office. Hipólito Mejía
Rafael Hipólito Mejía Domínguez (born 22 February 1941) is a Dominican politician who served as President of the Dominican Republic from 2000 to 2004. During his presidential term in office the country was affected by one of its worst economic crises, generated by the bankruptcy of three major commercial banks in the country, which resulted in high inflation, high country risk rating, currency devaluation and increasing local poverty. Further damaging to Mejía's reputation was the arrest of ex-army captain Quirino Paulino. Quirino was arrested after being linked to a large drug trafficking ring, and in the legal and political aftermath, connections to Mejía were discovered. Mejía sent 604 Dominican troops to fight in the Iraq War. José Francisco Peña Gómez
José Francisco Peña Gómez (6 March 1937 – 10 May 1998) was a politician from the Dominican Republic. He was the leader of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), a three-time candidate for president of the Dominican Republic and former Mayor of Santo Domingo. He is considered, along with Joaquín Balaguer and Juan Bosch, as one of the most prominent Dominican political figures of the 20th century.
