Adolfo Pedernera
Adolfo Alfredo Pedernera (15 November 1918 – 12 May 1995) was an Argentine football player and coach. Nicknamed "El Maestro" ("The Teacher"), he was widely considered to be one of the best world football players in the 1940s and one of the greatest Argentine players of all time. Pedernera was the natural conductor of both the famous River Plate team known as La Máquina ("The Machine"), with whom he won several Argentine and South American titles, and the Millonarios team called Ballet Azul ("Blue Ballet") that won the Small Club World Cup in 1953 among many others Colombian titles. Pedernera's play with the Argentina national team, helped win the Copa América in 1941 and 1946, the latter tournament being named the ''Best Player''. He also was elected the 12th-best South American footballer of the 20th century in a poll by the IFFHS in 2000, and his name appears in the list of the 100 greatest all time footballers selected from the magazine ''FourFourTwo'' in 2017, in whic ...

Juan Esteban Pedernera
Juan Esteban Pedernera (December 25, 1796 – February 1, 1886) was interim President of Argentina during a brief period in 1861. Born in 1796 in San Luis Province, he studied in a Franciscan monastery when young, and left his studies to join the Regiment of Mounted Grenadiers (Argentina), Regiment of Mounted Grenadiers being summoned by José de San Martín to fight in the Argentine War of Independence, War of Independence against Spanish Empire, Spanish rule. In 1815, he fought in the Battles of Battle of Chacabuco, Chacabuco and Battle of Maipú, in Chile; and then in the campaign to liberate Peru. He was imprisoned by the Spanish during the former campaign in Chiloé Island, but managed to escape and rejoin his army. Lieutenant-general Juan Esteban Pedernera married the former Rosa Juana Heredia in Callao on September 23, 1823; she was born in Perú, in 1805, and died in Buenos Aires, on August 26, 1886. General Pedernera Department
General Pedernera is a department of San Luis Province, Argentina. With an area of it borders to the north with the department of Coronel Pringles and Chacabuco, to the east with Córdoba Province, to the south with Gobernador Dupuy and to the west with Juan Martín de Pueyrredón. Its name pays homage to Lieutenant-general Juan Esteban Pedernera who fought with the Regiment of Mounted Grenadiers during the Argentine War of Independence and became the interim president of the Argentine Confederation. On October 14, 2009, the government of San Luis passed the decree of need and urgency No. 2884 MGJyC 09, which created the municipality of the Ranquel people-nation in 66.000 hectares of the General Pedernera Department, so as to provide a settlement for members of the Ranquel native people.
