Peace Hotel (film)
''Peace Hotel'' is a 1995 Hong Kong action western directed by Wai Ka-fai in his directorial debut. It starrs Chow Yun-fat and Cecilia Yip. Produced by John Woo, Wai wrote the film's screenplay and co-wrote the story with Chow. Plot Ten years before the film's era, Wong A-ping slaughters an entire troop of bandits himself, earning him the nickname Killer. His wife was killed during the chaos, but Wong ultimately spared a teenage member of the bandits. Afterwards, he set up a Peace Hotel to act as a sanctuary. The hotel has a rule that nobody can harm someone who has sought refuge in the hotel, but the hotel will not fight nor protect them once they leave. One day, a penniless woman named Shau Shiu-man arrives at the hotel and claims to be an old lover of the hotel owner. The staff and guests give her food and let her stay in Wong's room. Wai Ka-fai
Wai Ka-Fai (born 21 September 1962) is a Hong Kong screenwriter, producer, film director, and former TV screenwriter and producer. Wai is best known for his frequent collaborations with Johnnie To, another former TV turned film director and producer. In 1996, they formed Milkyway Image, which is now one of the most successful independent film studios in Hong Kong. The films that the two have made together as directors and producers include '' Needing You...'', ''Fat Choi Spirit'', ''Love on a Diet'', ''Fulltime Killer'', ''Turn Left, Turn Right'', ''Running on Karma'', and ''Mad Detective''. Jacklyn Wu
Jacklyn Wu Chien-lien (born 3 July 1968) is a Taiwanese actress and singer who began her career in Hong Kong. She graduated from Taipei National University of Arts. Career In 1990, Wu's acting career began. For her first acting role, Johnnie To cast her opposite Andy Lau in '' A Moment of Romance'' (1990). Wu achieved international recognition for her role in award-winning director Ang Lee's 1994 feature film ''Eat Drink Man Woman'', in which she played the second of three sisters. Hong Kong action cinema is the principal source of the Hong Kong film industry's global fame. Zhao Bing
Zhao Bing (12 February 1272 – 19 March 1279), also known as Emperor Bing of Song or Bing, Emperor of Song (宋帝昺), was the 18th and last emperor of the Song dynasty of China, who ruled as a minor between 6 and 7 years of age. He was also the ninth and last emperor of the Southern Song dynasty. He reigned for around 313 days in 1278 and 1279. His reign, and the Song dynasty, ended with the Song's total defeat by the Yuan dynasty at the naval Battle of Yamen. John Woo
John Woo Yu-Sen SBS (; born September 22, 1946) is a Hong Kong filmmaker, known as a highly-influential figure in the action film genre. He was a pioneer of heroic bloodshed films (a crime action film genre involving Chinese triads) and the gun fu genre in Hong Kong action cinema, before working in Hollywood films. He is known for his highly chaotic "bullet ballet" action sequences, stylized imagery, Mexican standoffs, frequent use of slow motion and allusions to ''wuxia'', film noir and Western cinema. The Soong sisters () were Soong Ai-ling, Soong Ching-ling, and Soong Mei-ling, three Shanghainese people, Shanghainese (of Hakka people, Hakka descent) Christian Chinese women who were, along with their husbands, amongst China's most significant political figures of the early 20th century. They each played a major role in influencing their husbands, H. H. Kung, Sun Yat Sen (both also Christians) and Chiang Kai-shek, who, along with their own positions of power, ultimately changed the course of Chinese history. Rotten Tomatoes is an American review-aggregation website for film and television. The company was launched in August 1998 by three undergraduate students at the University of California, Berkeley: Senh Duong, Patrick Y. Lee, and Stephen Wang. Although the name "Rotten Tomatoes" connects to the practice of audiences throwing rotten tomatoes in disapproval of a poor stage performance, the original inspiration comes from a scene featuring tomatoes in the Canadian film ''Léolo'' (1992). Since January 2010, Rotten Tomatoes has been owned by Flixster, which was in turn acquired by Warner Bros in 2011.
