Pazo De Castrelos
A Pazo is a type of Galician traditional house. Similar to a manor house, pazos are usually located in the countryside, as former residences of important people in the community (formerly of kings and nobility). They were of crucial importance in the 17th to 19th centuries, related to rural and monastic architecture and the system of feudal organization, and they constituted a type of local management unit around which the life of the villagers revolved. Over time they become the social symbol and refuge of the noble class, which Otero Pedrayo portrayed in his novels in early 20th century. The pazo, as a traditional civil architectural structure, had associated a social network: the servants of the nobleman and the tributaries of the domain, who themselves came to live on the grounds of the pazo (mostly the former). A pazo usually consists of a main building surrounded by gardens, a dovecote and often include outbuildings such as small chapels for religious celebrations. An examp ...

Cotobade
Cotobade is a former local country council in Galicia (Spain) in the province of Pontevedra. It bordered the municipalities of Campo Lameiro, Cerdedo, Forcarei, A Lama, Ponte Caldelas and Pontevedra. In 2011 its population was 4432 people, according to INE. Cotobade was divided internally into several administrative divisions that match the name of parishes. Among the most prominent geographical features are Lérez river, which flows through the lowlands of the local area and its tributary, and the river Almofrei. Among the mountains, the most prominent is Mount Seixo, one of the main mountains in Galicia. Although the origin of the name 'Cotobade' was considered popularly to be linked to the abbot of the monastery in the vicinity ("couto de abade" meaning 'abbot's land' in Galician), it seems more likely an older link to 'coto' (summit or upper part of a mountain) and probably an old surname Vatis. The whole region belonged to the jurisdiction of a benedictine monastery, in Te ...

A Estrada
A Estrada is a municipality of the Pontevedra province in Galicia in northwestern Spain. It is located some southeast of Santiago de Compostela. Etymology The name comes from the Latin word ''strata'', with the meaning of ''trodden earth, where one walks, I walk''. In fact, two paths crossed in the main square: from south to north up a path from Terra de Montes, Ourense and Portugal, where the herdsmen and pilgrims going to Santiago de Compostela passed; and east to west, from the lands of Deza, Trasdeza and the interior of Galicia, where herdsmen headed to the coast. History Tabeirós jurisdiction stems from the days of the Swabian King Miro in the sixth century and is mentioned in the Chronicon Iriense as belonging to the diocese of Iria. In the twelfth century, the archbishop of Santiago Gelmírez and King Alfonso VII of Castile exchanged land between Tabeirós, Tabeirolos and the Faro fort, passing the first into the possession of the Compostela miter. This jurisdiction cove ...

Cambados
Cambados is a municipality in Galicia, Spain in the province of Pontevedra. It is known for its historical monuments, its seafood and the famous white wine, Albariño. Culture Fishing is a major industry in this coastal area of Galicia (called Rias baixas). In Cambados, fish and seafood sellers sell at what is called La Plaza, which is a great and hallowed installation that is very busy every morning (except for Sundays), as fish is usually part of the daily diet. La ría de Arousa, the body of water that surrounds this area, is rich in many types of seafood, as well. In Cambados, seafood is mostly collected in "O Serrido" or "A Seca", which is an area of water surrounding the San Tome Tower (see below) emptying out almost completely when the tide is low, leaving the perfect area for seafood collectors. Large groups of them, (mostly women, with a few exceptions once in a while) go when the tide is low with their buckets and tools to dig up the sand and collect seafood (c ...
