Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School
Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School is a public high school located in Paxton, Illinois. Founded in 1990, it serves the communities of Paxton, Buckley and Loda. PBL had an enrollment of 472 students for the 2016–17 school year. History In 1990, declining enrollment at Buckley-Loda High School led to a consolidation with Paxton High School. A new school building was constructed to field all of the students, and the histories of the individual schools were left behind as the new PBL collaboration took effect. The current high school draws students from five Illinois counties, but the bulk of the student body hails from Ford and Iroquois counties. Demographics PBL is 93 percent white, six percent Hispanic, and one percent black. Paxton is a city in Ford County, Illinois, United States. The population was 4,473 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Ford County. History The town was initially named Prairie City in the late 1840s, then Prospect City by an Illinois Central Railroad official in 1855. However, as Wilbur W. Sauer says that residents noted the town was "all prospect and no city." In 1859, it was renamed for Sir Joseph Paxton, architect of the Crystal Palace, who was a major shareholder in the Illinois Central Railroad, which in 1856 was the longest span of railroad in the world ( Chicago to Cairo). Paxton-Buckley-Loda Community Unit School District 10 is a unified school district centered in Paxton, is in rural area in Illinois, the county seat of the Illinois division of Ford County. The Illini Prairie Conference is a high school athletic conference in the Illinois High School Association (IHSA), based in Central Illinois. The conference comprises ten medium-sized and small high schools resulting from the merging of the Corn Belt Conference and the Okaw Valley Conference. Conference athletics began in the 2017-18 school year. History Member schools of the Corn Belt Conference and the Okaw Valley Conference began discussing a merger after the announced departures of Eureka High School and Mahomet-Seymour High School from the Corn Belt Conference in 2014 and 2015. The village derives its name from "Cath-Loda", a poem by Ossian. Geography Loda is located in southwestern Iroquois County at (40.516400, -88.073975).
