Pawsox Radio Network
The Pawsox Radio Network was the radio network of the Pawtucket Red Sox, a Triple-A minor league affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. There were 12 stations (nine A.M. and three F.M.) and three F.M. translators in the network, including the flagship and part-time stations. The network last broadcast games for the Pawtucket team in 2019, as the 2020 minor league season was cancelled and the team relocated to Worcester, Massachusetts, becoming the Worcester Red Sox for the 2021 season. Radio Network
There are two types of radio network currently in use around the world: the one-to-many (simplex communication) broadcast network commonly used for public information and mass-media entertainment, and the two-way radio ( duplex communication) type used more commonly for public safety and public services such as police, fire, taxicabs, and delivery services. Cell phones are able to send and receive simultaneously by using two different frequencies at the same time. Many of the same components and much of the same basic technology applies to all three. Fitchburg is a city in northern Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States. The third-largest city in the county, its population was 41,946 at the 2020 census. Fitchburg is home to Fitchburg State University as well as 17 public and private elementary and high schools. Westerly, Rhode Island
Westerly is a town on the southwestern shoreline of Washington County, Rhode Island, first settled by English colonists in 1661 and incorporated as a municipality in 1669. It is a beachfront community on the south shore of the state with a population of 23,359 as of the 2020 census. The Pawcatuck River flows on the western border of Westerly and was once renowned for its own species of Westerly salmon, three of which are on the town's official seal. The river flows from inland, emptying into Little Narragansett Bay. It also serves as the boundary between Westerly and Pawcatuck, Connecticut. WBLQ (AM)
WBLQ (1230 AM) is a radio station licensed to serve Westerly, Rhode Island. The station is owned by Diponti Communications. History 1940s 1949 The station, then called WERI, began broadcasting on 1230kc. on July 1, 1949, using Day/Night power of 250 watts, non-directional. The station still uses its original 185-foot, Blaw-Knox, self-supporting tower, on Margin Street, beside the Pawcatuck River. 1960s The FCC increases the daytime power of all Class IV AM stations to 1,000 watts. WERI still has to reduce power to 250 watts at night, as did all other stations on the same frequency. 1966 WERI adds F.M. service with WERI-FM/103.7 (Channel 279) (now WVEI-FM). WWFX (100.1 FM; "100 FM The Pike") is a classic rock radio station serving the Worcester vicinity. It is under ownership of Cumulus Media. WWFX is also an affiliate of the New England Patriots Radio Network. History The station signed on November 1, 1968, as WESO-FM, sister station to WESO. In 1979, the station's call letters changed to WQVR, and before long it had become country station "Q100". In February 1999, under the new ownership of Wilks Broadcasting, the station changed format to classic hits, taking on the call letters WWFX. The station became an affiliate of the syndicated The Bob & Tom Show and changed its name to "100.1 The Fox". That December, the station was sold to Citadel Broadcasting for $14.25 million. WEII (96.3 FM, "SportsRadio 96.3") is a radio station in Dennis, Massachusetts. The station airs a sports radio format from Boston-based WEEI-FM. It is owned by iHeartMedia. The station started life in 1981 under the call letters WGTF, operating on 93.5 FM. It moved to 96.3 in 1982 (the 93.5 frequency is now occupied by WFRQ) and changed its call letters to WXJY in 1984 and WNTX in 1988. First settled in 1662 and incorporated in 1780, Milford became a booming industrial and quarrying community in the 19th century due to its unique location which includes the nearby source of the Charles River, the Mill River, the Blackstone River watershed, and large quantities of Milford pink granite.
