Pavol Horov Grammar School ( sk, Gymnázium Pavla Horova) is an upper secondary school located in the town of Michalovce in Košice Region, Slovakia. Established in 1922, it is the oldest Slovak Gymnasium (school), Gymnasium east of the Mátra-Slanec Area and is one of two main providers of secondary school education in Michalovce, along with ''Gymnázium na ulici Ľudovíta Štúra''. History Background Before the Czechoslovakia, Czechoslovak declaration of independence on 28 October 1918, the area of surrounding the town of Michalovce was a part of the former Counties of the Kingdom of Hungary, Hungarian County of Košice ( hu, Kassa). At that time, there was only three secondary schools in the entire county, all of which was purely Hungarian, located in the then cultural centers of Košice, Pršsov and Uzhhorod. Michalovce
Michalovce (; hu, Nagymihály, german: Großmichel, Romani language, Romani: ''Mihalya'', Yiddish language, Yiddish: ''Mikhaylovets'' or ''Mykhaylovyts''; uk, Михайлівці) is a town on the Laborec river in eastern Slovakia. Originally named after the Archangel St Michael, it is the second-largest city in the Košice Region and the seat of the Michalovce District. The city is located on the shore of Zemplínska šírava, Lake Sirava, approximately east of the capital Bratislava and immediately adjacent to the border with Ukraine.
