Regions Of Brazil
Brazil is geopolitically divided into five regions (also called macroregions), by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, which are formed by the federative units of Brazil. Although officially recognized, the division is merely academic, considering geographic, social and economic factors, among others, and has no political effects other than orientating Federal-level government programs. Under the state level, there are also mesoregions and microregions. Atibaia River
Atibaia (or ''Estância de Atibaia'') is a Brazilian municipality in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The name is derived from an indigenous language called Tupi, and means "healthy water river". Its name has changed over time, from the primitive Tupi word Tybaia, to Thibaia, Atubaia, Thibaya, and finally the city's modern name, Atibaia. Its strawberry crops are well known. These crops are cultivated mainly by Japanese descendants, since the city was a common Japanese immigrant center. History In 1665, Jerônimo de Camargo and his expedition found a hill near a river named Tubaia (later called Atibaia River). Jerônimo de Camargo was a Bandeirante explorer. Their main objective was to search the interior lands of Brazil for rich mineral resources, such as gold, silver and emeralds in present-day state of Minas Gerais. Camargo had his men build a chapel by the Tubaia river, which served as shelter to "tropeiros"—interior explorers on horse back—as well. The area was already ...

Mata De Santa Genebra
Mata de Santa Genebra (Saint Geneva Forest) is an area of relevant ecological interest in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. History The area was originally part of the Fazenda Santa Genebra, a coffee plantation owned by Baron Geraldo de Resende, which covered the present Barão Geraldo de Resende district and some parts of the city of Campinas. The Baron invested heavily in new technology for his plantation and went bankrupt. His lands were auctioned off, and the Oliveira family bought the part that holds the forest, which they preserved. José Pedro de Oliveira, who became owner, thought that the fresh air of the forest would help control his tuberculosis. After his death his widow donated the forest to the municipality. On the date of the donation, 14 July 1981, the Fundação José Pedro de Oliveira was established to use the forest for strictly scientific and cultural purposes. Betel (district Of Paulínia)
Betel is a district of Paulínia, located 5 km to the East of Paulínia downtown, bordering the Campinas district of Barão Geraldo. Its area is about 49.5 km2 and it had a population of 6,242 at the time of the 2010 IBGE census. In 1993, the region was part of the district of Barão Geraldo in Campinas. History The region of Betel began to be populated around the year 1889, when the Funilense Railroad was built. The railroad was a milestone for the settlement of Barão Geraldo and Betel. Betel was then a part of Barão Geraldo. In 1950 the Alvorada Parque neighborhood was founded, slowly expanding towards the region of the Constant Pavan Avenue. As Betel grew, it approached the city of Paulínia. In 1993, a plebiscite was held on the accession of Be ...
