Paulo Mendes Campos
Paulo Mendes Campos (February 28, 1922 – July 1, 1991) was a Brazilian writer and journalist. Biography Born in Minas Gerais, Mendes Campos was the son of the physician and writer Mario Mendes Campos and D. Maria José de Lima Campos. He began his studies at the state capital, continued in Cachoeira do Campo, where the Portuguese teacher, a priest predicted: "You will still be a writer," and ended them in São João del Rei. He began the study of dentistry, veterinary medicine and law, but did not complete them. His dream of being an aviator did not materialize either. He had a diploma, he liked to joke, only in touch-typing. Still very young, he entered literary life as a member of the Minas Gerais' "Generation of 1945", together with such writers as Fernando Sabino, Otto Lara Resende, Hélio Pellegrino, João Ettiene Filho, Carlos Castello Branco and Murilo Rubião. Carlos Castello Branco
Carlos Castello Branco (Teresina, June 25, 1920 – Rio de Janeiro, June 1, 1993) was a Brazilian journalist and writer. He was a member of the Academia Brasileira de Letras and of the Academia Piauiense de Letras. The column that he maintained in the Jornal do Brasil is a landmark of political journalism. His collected papers are kept in the Archive-Museum of Brazilian Literature, part of the Fundação Casa de Rui Barbosa. Biography ''Castelinho'', as he was known, was born Teresina, in the Brazilian State of Piauí on June 25, 1920, the son of Cristino Castello Branco and Dulcila Santanna. He obtained a law degree in Minas Gerais (1943), but his life was dedicated to journalism. ''Manchete'' was a Brazilian weekly news magazine published from 1952 to 2000 by Bloch Editores. Founded by Adolpho Bloch, the magazine's name would be given to the defunct television network Rede Manchete. Murilo Rubião (1 June 1916 – 16 September 1991) was a Brazilian writer. His entire work consists of short stories, best described as surreal fables in the tradition of Franz Kafka - this being so, Rubião's work must be seen as part of the Magic Realism movement of late 20th-century Latin America. It is said that Rubião was obsessive about his work, revising it at every new edition, always changing a few details, such as characters' names.
