Paulo Afonso Evangelista Vieira, better known as Paulo Afonso, is a federal deputy and member of the PMDB of Santa Catarina. The Brazilian Democratic Movement ( pt, Movimento Democrático Brasileiro, MDB) is a Brazilian political party. It is considered a "big tent party" and it is one of the parties with the greatest representation throughout the national territory, with the most numbers of senators, mayors and city councillors, always having formed a large plurality at the National Congress since 1988, and also has the largest number of affiliates, with 2,131,547 members as of 2022. Originally, the MDB was founded on 1965 as part of an enforced two party system by the Brazilian military dictatorship, providing an official, if controlled, opposition. Santa Catarina (, ) is a States of Brazil, state in the South Region, Brazil, South Region of Brazil. It is the List of Brazilian states by area, 7th smallest state in total area and the List of Brazilian states by population, 11th most populous.
