Paul Wheatley (footballer)
Paul Wheatley (born 12 April 1981) is a former Australian rules footballer who played in the Australian Football League (AFL). A Preston Knights recruit, Wheatley made his debut for the Melbourne Football Club in 2000, after being selected at number 20 in the 1999 AFL Draft. Wheatley is known for his prodigious kicking, with his ability to pinpoint 60 metre passes using the drop punt. He is also known to be able to kick long distance torpedo punts, which led to speculation that he might try out as an American football punter. Paul polled two votes in the 2007 Brownlow Medal, his first votes, and five votes in 2008, a career high. Northern Knights
The Northern Knights is an Australian rules football club playing in the NAB League, the top statewide under-18 competition in Victoria, Australia. They are based in Preston, representing the northern suburban area of Melbourne. The Knights are one of the six original clubs set up as part of a plan by the Victorian State Football League to replace the traditional club zones with independent junior clubs. This was to help aid in player development and the process of the AFL draft, which allows U18 players the opportunity to be selected by AFL clubs. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Matthew Whelan (born 13 November 1979) is a former professional Australian rules football player. Wearing the number 45 jersey, Whelan, recruited from the Northern Territory was reliable defender/ back pocket known by Demons fans as "Wheels".
