Paul Weiss (9 April 1911 – 19 January 1991) was a German and British mathematician and theoretical physicist, pioneer of canonical quantization of field theories. Biography Paul Weiss was born in Sagan in the German part of Silesia (now in Poland) into a wealthy Jewish industrialist family. In 1929–1933 he was educated at the University of Göttingen, where he became a pupil of Max Born, with a break for the academic year 1930–31, when he worked as a school teacher; he also studied in Paris and Zurich for some time. After the Nazis came to power, Born left Germany and invited Weiss to the University of Cambridge; Weiss joined Born in the autumn of 1933 (his mother and sister had already moved to England). Paul S. Weiss (born October 10, 1959) is a leading American nanoscientist at the University of California, Los Angeles. He holds numerous positions, including UC Presidential Chair, Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Bioengineering, and of Materials Science and Engineering, and founder and editor-in-chief of '' ACS Nano.'' From 2019–2014, he held the Fred Kavli Chair in NanoSystems Sciences and was the director of the California NanoSystems Institute. Weiss has co-authored over 400 research publications and holds over 40 US and international patents. Weiss received his bachelor of science and master of science degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1980 and his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley in 1986. Paul Weiss (; May 19, 1901 – July 5, 2002) was an American philosopher. He was the founder of ''The Review of Metaphysics'' and the Metaphysical Society of America. Early life and education Paul Weiss grew up on the Lower East Side of New York City. His father, Samuel Weiss (d. 1917), was a Jewish emigrant who moved from Europe in the 1890s. He worked as a tinsmith, a coppersmith, and a boilermaker. Paul Weiss's mother, Emma Rothschild (Weiss) (d. 1915), was a Jewish emigrant who worked as a servant until she married Samuel. Born into a Jewish family, Paul lived among other Jewish families in a working-class neighborhood in the Yorkville section of Manhattan. Paul Alfred Weiss (March 21, 1898 – September 8, 1989) was an Austrian biologist who specialised in morphogenesis, development, differentiation and neurobiology. A teacher, experimenter and theorist, he made a lasting contribution to science in his lengthy career, throughout which he sought to encourage specialists in different fields to meet and share insights. Paul Weiss was born in Vienna, the son of a Jewish couple, Carl S. Weiss, a businessman, and Rosalie Kohn Weiss. Paul Weis (19 March 1907 – 6 February 1991) was an Austrian lawyer and survivor of the persecution by the Nazis. He is dubbed to be the "founding father of the protection". Life Weis was born in Vienna on 19 March 1907. He was interned at concentration camp Dachau and moved to the UK after his release. During the war, he was a member of the Committee on the Status of Stateless Persons of the Grotius Society and secretary of the Free Austrian Movement. From 1944-1947, he was secretary of the Legal Section of the Research Committee of the World Jewish Congress. He served as a legal advisor to the International Refugee Organization, a specialized agency created to assist refugees from 1947 until 1951, and then as the head of the legal department of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees ( UNHCR).
