Paul Weber (academic)
Paul Weber (February 27, 1904 – June 1983) was the interim president of the Georgia Institute of Technology from previous president Blake Ragsdale Van Leer's death until a replacement was found in Edwin D. Harrison, a period of approximately 18 months. Career Weber initially joined Georgia Tech as a chemical engineering instructor in 1927, and over time became the head of the department. He temporarily left Georgia Tech to finish his education and in 1934 received a doctorate in chemistry from Purdue University. He was also involved in research through the Georgia Tech Research Institute, then known as the Engineering Experiment Station; his research from 1940 to 1952 focused on paint primers for Southern yellow pine. In 1955 he was Dean of Faculties; and after an intensive reorganization of the institute administration, he was named vice president for planning in 1965. The Georgia Institute of Technology, commonly referred to as Georgia Tech or, in the state of Georgia, as Tech or The Institute, is a public research university and institute of technology in Atlanta, Georgia. Blake Ragsdale Van Leer
Blake Ragsdale Van Leer (August 16, 1893 – January 23, 1956) was an engineer and university professor who served as the fifth president of Georgia Institute of Technology from 1944 until his death in 1956. Early life and education Van Leer was born in Mangum, Oklahoma to Maurice Langhorne Van Leer and Mary McKee Tarleton. After his father's death in 1897 he grew up in a Masonic Orphanage in Fort Worth, Texas from the age of 4. He graduated with honours from Purdue University in 1915 with a degree in Electrical Engineering and later an M.S. While working at Berkley, He received an M. S. in mechanical engineering from here in 1920. Also studied at the University of Caen in France and the University of Munich He was awarded two doctorates, one from Washington and Jefferson College and the other from Purdue. The Georgia Tech Library is an academic library that serves the needs of students, faculty, and staff at the Georgia Institute of Technology. The library consists of the S. Price Gilbert Memorial Library and Dorothy M. Crosland Tower. In addition, the library is connected to and manages the Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons. The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is the nonprofit applied research arm of the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.
