Paul Van Loon
Paul van Loon (born 17 April 1955) is a Dutch writer of children's literature. His best-known books are the series about ' and the series '. A musical and a movie have also been made of both. The series ' also became one of his best known works after the appearance of a television series (') and of an amusement park show in Efteling. Van Loon has been working as a writer for over thirty years and has written more than a hundred books. Apart from the Netherlands and Belgium, his books have also been published in other countries, including Germany, France, Italy, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Sweden, Spain, Japan, and England. Biography In his youth, Van Loon was already interested in fantasy horror stories. He read the books of Tolkien, Bram Stoker, and H. P. Geleen
Geleen (; li, Gelaen ) is a city in the southern part of the province of Limburg (Netherlands), Limburg in the Netherlands. With 31,670 inhabitants in 2020, it is part of the municipality of Sittard-Geleen. Geleen is situated along the river Geleenbeek, a right tributary to the river Meuse. The Latin name for Geleenbeek is ''Glana'', meaning "clear river". The town centre is situated at about 60 m above sea level. Leopold is a Dutch publishing house focused on children's literature based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Leopold was founded in 1923 by H. P. Leopold, owner of the magazine ''Haagse Post''. History Leopold published its first children's book ''Java Ho!'' (''De Scheepsjongens van Bontekoe'') by Johan Fabricius in 1924. The Digital Library for Dutch Literature (Dutch: Digitale Bibliotheek voor de Nederlandse Letteren or DBNL) is a website (showing the abbreviation as dbnl) about Dutch language and Dutch literature. It contains thousands of literary texts, secondary literature and additional information, like biographies, portrayals etcetera, and hyperlinks. The DBNL is an initiative by the DBNL foundation that was founded in 1999 by the Society of Dutch Literature (Dutch: Maatschappij der Nederlandse Letterkunde). Building of the DNBL was made possible by donations, among others, from the Dutch Organization for Scientific Research (Dutch: Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek or NWO) and the Nederlandse Taalunie. From 2008 to 2012, the editor was René van Stipriaan. The work is done by eight people in Leiden (as of 2013: The Hague), 20 students, and 50 people in the Philippines who scan and type the texts. Efteling () is a fantasy-themed amusement park in Kaatsheuvel, the Netherlands. The attractions reflect elements from ancient myths and legends, fairy tales, fables, and folklore.
