Paul Nolen
Paul Edward Nolen (September 3, 1929 – May 7, 2009) was an American basketball player. A 6'10" center, Nolen attended Texas Technological College (now Texas Tech University), where he was a three-time all-conference selection in the Border Conference, including first-team honors as a sophomore and senior. In 1951, he won the Border Conference scoring crown after averaging 19.9 points per game. Over his career with the Raiders, he scored 1,306 points. Drafted by the Baltimore Bullets with the 35th pick in the 1953 NBA draft, he signed with the team during the summer, and appeared in one NBA game for the team on November 7, 1953. Following hs NBA stint, he played for the Washington Generals, the exhibition team that always plays the Harlem Globetrotters. Tulia, Texas
Tulia is a city in, and county seat of, Swisher County, Texas, United States. The population was 4,967 at the 2010 census; in the 2018 census estimate, it had fallen to 4,682. The city is at the junction of U.S. Route 87 and Texas State Highway 86, about east of Interstate 27. Tulia is a center for farming and agribusiness activities. History Its site was originally on the acreage of the Tule Ranch division of the JA Ranch. In 1887, a post office was established in James A. Parrish's dugout on Middle Tule Draw, west of what is now the site of Tulia. Evidently, the name Tule, after the nearby creek, had been selected for this post office, but at some point a clerk's error changed the name to Tulia. The Washington Generals are an United States, American basketball team who play Exhibition game, exhibition games against the Harlem Globetrotters. The team has also played under several different Pseudonym, aliases in their history as the Globetrotters' perennial opponents. Function The Generals exist primarily as a part of the Harlem Globetrotters' act, effectively being Straight man (stock character), stooges for the Globetrotters. While the Globetrotters play tricks and spectacular displays of skill for the crowd, the Generals attempt to play a "normal" game of basketball. The Generals' games involve playing genuine basketball at times, but also not interfering in the Globetrotters' tricks. Almost every game has ended in a resounding win for the Globetrotters. History ''The Lubbock Avalanche'' was founded in 1900 by John James Dillard and Thad Tubbs. The 1953 NBA draft was the seventh annual draft of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The draft was held on April 24, 1953, before the 1953–54 season. In this draft, nine remaining NBA teams took turns selecting amateur U.S. college basketball players. In each round, the teams select in reverse order of their win–loss record in the previous season. ''Abilene Reporter-News'' is a daily newspaper based in Abilene, Texas, United States. The newspaper started publishing as the weekly ''Abilene Reporter'', helmed by Charles Edwin Gilbert on June 17, 1881, just three months after Abilene was founded. It is hence the oldest continuous business in the city. It became a daily newspaper in 1885. History Two months after starting the paper, a fire destroyed several buildings in Abilene, including Gilbert's office.
