Paul Neville (musician)
Paul Neville is an underground experimental guitarist and musician from Birmingham, England. He is best known as the second guitarist in the seminal industrial metal band Godflesh on the second half of their Streetcleaner album and on the Slavestate EP as well as a tour member of the band on respective supporting tours, although Neville had been making music with G. C. Green and later, Justin Broadrick, since 1983 in noise outfit Fall of Because; a band that would break up in 1987 and later reform in 1988 at Broadrick’s initiative, now evolved into the industrial noise core that was Godflesh. Neville is noted for his distinctive style, which can be said to be influenced by that of Geordie Walker of Killing Joke, but with an even greater experimental edge and a flair for drawn out improvisation, creating an unusual and original synergy of noise and melody akin to some of the work of Norman Westberg, Justin Broadrick and Robert Hampson. Guitar
The guitar is a fretted musical instrument that typically has six strings. It is usually held flat against the player's body and played by strumming or plucking the strings with the dominant hand, while simultaneously pressing selected strings against frets with the fingers of the opposite hand. A plectrum or individual finger picks may also be used to strike the strings. The sound of the guitar is projected either acoustically, by means of a resonant chamber on the instrument, or amplified by an electronic pickup and an amplifier. The guitar is classified as a chordophone – meaning the sound is produced by a vibrating string stretched between two fixed points. Historically, a guitar was constructed from wood with its strings made of catgut. Steel guitar strings were introduced near the end of the nineteenth century in the United States; nylon strings came in the 1940s. The guitar's ancestors include the gittern, the vihuela, the four- course Renaissance guitar, and the ... Pure (Godflesh Album)
''Pure'' is the second studio album by English industrial metal band Godflesh. It was released on 13 April 1992 through Earache Records. Though originally labeled only as industrial metal, the album has since been recognised as one of the earliest post-metal releases. Musically, ''Pure'' is rhythmically mechanical and features harsh guitars, with protracted songs and an abundance of deliberate repetition. Like much of Godflesh's music, it is regarded as particularly heavy and aggressive, and these elements helped it gain critical acclaim. ''Pure'' was supported by the promotional single of and music video for "Mothra", and the 1991 EP '' Cold World'' was recorded in the same sessions as the album. In 2013, Godflesh performed the majority of ''Pure'' live at Roadburn. Despite dissatisfaction with the production quality of the album, Godflesh frontman Justin Broadrick considers it one of the band's most honest releases. In 2012, ''Fact'' ranked ''Pure'' as the 64th best album of the ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Slateman
"Slateman" is a song by industrial metal band Godflesh. It was released as a 7-inch single in 1991 through Sub Pop and later reissued on Earache Records as a CD, a 7-inch and a 12-inch. In 1996, the single was repackaged alongside '' Cold World'' (1991) on one disc by Earache Records as the compilation ''Slateman/Cold World''. Both "Slateman" and its b-side, "Wound '91", were appended to the end of most issues of Godflesh's 1991 EP ''Slavestate''. Background The song "Wound '91" is an updated version of the song "Wound" from the unreleased ''Tiny Tears'' EP, which was later appended as bonus tracks to the end of the CD version of ''Streetcleaner'' (1989). The single's cover photograph was taken during a 1991 gig in London where the band opened for Nirvana. Critical reception Ira A. Robbins of ''Trouser Press'' wrote, "The four-song ''Slavestate'' EP finds the band charging full-on into an industrial-dance realm, giving ''Streetcleaners lurch-and-crunch the twist of a rhythmic ... Streetcleaner (album)
''Streetcleaner'' is the debut studio album by English industrial metal band Godflesh. It was released on 13 November 1989 through Earache Records and was reissued with a second disc of previously unreleased material on 21 June 2010. The album is widely acclaimed by critics and is often cited as a landmark release in industrial metal; though not the genre's first release, ''Streetcleaner'' helped define what industrial metal would become. Recorded in three distinct sessions and partially refined from pre-Godflesh demos, ''Streetcleaner'' is a weighty, bleak album that blends heavy metal with industrial music by means of production-emphasised bass, distorted guitar and, most importantly, machine percussion. Unlike many metal albums, guitar is employed to create screeching noise rather than discrete riffs, and the drums and bass are louder than is typical. ''Streetcleaner'' was supported by a series of concerts where Godflesh played alongside Napalm Death, and it was on the Nort ... ''Life Is Easy'' incorporates many of those early demo tracks, which were recorded when Justin Broadrick was only sixteen. Dimitri Nasrallah of ''Exclaim!'' called Fall of Because's output "eerily ahead of its time". The album was released in Japan by Daymare Recordings and contains two additional instrumental remixes on a bonus disc. In February 2005, a double vinyl picture disc set was released by Hydra Head, limited to 1000 copies. In 2022, Broadrick said ''Tired of Me'' is one of his favorite songs as it documented the painful moment in his life at the time, which was the dissolution of Godflesh (the musical group he'd led since the 1980s) and the break-up of his long-time romantic relationship. Broadrick himself has stated that "...it's very loosely speaking pop/rock/metal/ electronica ... I'm intentionally writing what I consider to be coherent 'pop' songs". Biography 2004–2008 Jesu's first release, the '' Heart Ache'' EP, was released in 2004 and featured Broadrick performing all of the instruments and vocals alone. It was followed four months later by the full-length ''Jesu'' LP, which featured the addition of bassist Diarmuid Dalton and drummer Ted Parsons, although not every song features both members.
