Paul Le Drogo ( Pontivy, 16 December 1905 — Sarzeau, 25 July 1966) was a French professional road bicycle racer. He was the younger brother of Ferdinand Le Drogo. Pontivy
Pontivy (; ) is a commune in the Morbihan department in Brittany in north-western France. It lies at the confluence of the river Blavet and the Canal de Nantes à Brest. Inhabitants of Pontivy are called ''Pontivyens'' in French. Map History A monk called Ivy built a bridge nearby over the river Blavet in the 7th century, and the town is named after him ("''pont-Ivi''" being the Breton for "Ivy's bridge"). From November 9, 1804, the name was changed to Napoléonville after Napoléon Bonaparte, under whom it had around 3,000 inhabitants. After his downfall, it was renamed Pontivy again, then later Bourbonville, and Napoléonville again after Napoléon III came to power. Population Economy This is a largely agricultural town. Sarzeau (; br, Sarzhav) is a commune in the Morbihan department of Brittany in north-western France. It is located on the Rhuys peninsula between the Gulf of Morbihan and the Atlantic Ocean. Ferdinand Le Drogo
Ferdinand Le Drogo (10 October 1903 – 24 April 1976) was a French professional road bicycle racer. He is most known for his silver medal in the Elite race of the 1931 Road World Championships. Ferdinand Le Drogo was the older brother of cyclist Paul Le Drogo. In the 1927 Tour de France, Le Drogo took part in the Dilecta-Wolber team, which won the first stage, led by Francis Pélissier, who was the first leader of the general classification. Le Drogo won the fifth stage. In the sixth stage, Francis Pélissier abandoned sick. Ferdinand Le Drogo, who was second in the general classification, became the new leader. In the seventh stage, while Le Drogo was in the yellow jersey, the Tour passed in the region where he was born. His supporters cheered for Le Drogo, and he got excited and sped away from his teammates. That cost him too much energy, and he lost 20 minutes in that stage to the J.B. 1929 Tour De France
The 1929 Tour de France was the 23rd edition of the Tour de France, taking place from 30 June to 28 July. It consisted of 22 stages over . Nicolas Frantz had won two consecutive Tours, in 1927 and 1928, and was looking for a third. In addition the 1926 Tour winner, Lucien Buysse, was looking for another title. Victor Fontan, leader of the general classification and therefore wearer of the yellow jersey, crashed in the Pyrenees during stage 10, breaking the forks to his bicycle. At that time, a rule stated that a rider must finish a stage with the bike he started it with. Fontan went house to house, looking for a bike to borrow. He eventually found one and rode 145 km to the finish line, with his broken bike strapped to his back. At the end of the day Fontan quit the race in tears.
