Paul Jorgensen
Paul Jorgensen (April 5, 1935 – August 6, 2008) was a super featherweight professional boxer from Louisiana. Personal life Jorgenson was born in Tallulah, Louisiana, and made his residence in Port Arthur, Texas. Professional career Jorgensen made his professional debut on April 27, 1954, with a four-round points win against Infant Valdez in Houston, Texas. Jorgensen won his first sixteen fights, including a win against Eddie Bertolino on June 1, 1954. It was in the rematch against Bertolino on September 28, 1954, that Jorgensen suffered his first loss. Like many boxers of his day, Jorgensen fought frequently - often twice a month. Jorgensen continued to fight and generally to win, facing tough competition like Redtop Davis, Lulu Perez, Jackie Blair, Carmelo Costa, Victor Manuel Quijano, Harold Gomes, and Battling Torres. The super featherweight division was established by the New York Walker Law in 1920, although first founded by the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) in 1930. A knockout (abbreviated to KO or K.O.) is a fight-ending, winning criterion in several full-contact combat sports, such as boxing, kickboxing, muay thai, mixed martial arts, karate, some forms of taekwondo and other sports involving striking, as well as fighting-based video games. A full knockout is considered any legal strike or combination thereof that renders an opponent unable to continue fighting. The term is often associated with a sudden traumatic loss of consciousness caused by a physical blow. Single powerful blows to the head (particularly the jawline and temple) can produce a cerebral concussion or a carotid sinus reflex with syncope and cause a sudden, dramatic KO. Battling Torres
Raymundo "Battling" Torres (17 February 1941 – 11 November 1972) was a Mexican junior lightweight who fought from 1957 to 1967. Torres was a puncher, but proved to have difficulty taking punches himself. Thus, he was knocked out in many of his more important bouts, including his two attempts to capture a world title. Torres was born in Cerritos, San Luis Potosí, but was known as the "Reynosa Rattlesnake" because he was raised in the bordertown of Reynosa, Tamaulipas. He first challenged for the world junior welterweight title when he faced champion Carlos Ortiz in February 1960. Ortiz prevailed in the hard fought contest when he scored a knock out in the tenth round. Prior to that loss, Torres had been undefeated in 31 contests. Harold Gomes
Harold Gomes (born August 22, 1933) is an American former professional boxer who competed between 1951 and 1963. The highlight of Gomes's career came in 1959 when he won the world super featherweight title against Paul Jorgensen. Professional career Gomes fought as a professional for the first time in September 1951 at the age of 18. His debut was against Billy St Pierre at the Rhode Island Auditorium in his hometown, the venue for his first thirteen professional fights. Billy St Pierre was knocked out in the second round, giving Gomes his first professional victory. Gomes remained undefeated until January 1954, when he lost a ten-round decision to Tommy Tibbs, a man that Gomes had beaten twice in 1952 and once in 1953.
